Good Times, at The Good Batch

The Good Batch has been around, close to 3 years now, and I must admit, it does take me some time to step into a cafe, for their food. With KL being the hub of street food and all, do I really want to fill my stomach with cafe food?

Well, I am glad that I swallowed my reservations and stepped into ‘The Good Batch’ then, as the food turned out surprisingly good.

Gin tonic (RM28) and ‘a good batch’ of Salted Egg Wings(RM19).. the promised of decadence was evident in the yellow sheen and gloss of these wings, heavily inundated in salted egg yolk, butter, birds eye chilies, curry leaves and evaporated milk.

We were happy that we could at least taste the salted egg yolk in the coating, unlike some other places we have had the misfortune of ordering salted egg coated items.

Love the hipster vibe of this cafe.

The Hangover Mess (RM25) is a must-order, even if you aren’t hung over..

Apparently a dish inspired from any party weekend shenanigans and its cravings for a messy and greasy meal! We agreed that it really hit the spot  – I am a big fan of corned beef and this one was delicious especially baked with nicely browned potatoes and a big huge sunny side up on top. Perfect!

Untitled

Spicy Seafood Marinara (RM39) – on the soggy side, as the pasta was not cooked al dente. They were generous with the seafood though..

Untitled

Australian Steak & Eggs (RM53) – A hefty portion of Grain-fed Australian Sirloin topped with two sunny side-up eggs completed with a side of caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes and a smooth potato mash. For just under RM60, we have to say that the portions were generous, and the flavour of the flame grilled meat, spot on.

A nicely executed medium rare!

Untitled

Chicken roulade (RM35) – didn’t really fancy the strange sausage stuffing. It tasted a bit plastic.

Untitled

Brownies with ice-cream and Banana cake – loved the brownies, didn’t care much for the banana cake.

The good batch is a great place in Petaling Jaya for folks to enjoy coffee and hearty meals, at reasonable prices. And if booze is your thing, don’t forget to check out their speakeasy just upstairs, (Hyde) for innovative cocktails. We would come here again for the huge portions, laid-back ambiance and zippy service!
