Big Breakfast, Huckleberry Style!

Here we are, one lazy Sunday, back at Huckleberry Food & Fare, after checking out their After Dark menu.

Big breakfast purists might quibble at toast not being fried, or the absence of the requisite mess of baked beans, but if you’re looking for a quick morning fix of a different sort of breakfast, then you have come to the right place.

Top on our list of must have’s include, the Banana French Toast (RM24.90). Insanely addictive, and an overly generous portion of caramalized walnuts, coupled with sugary sweet, over-ripe bananas, is what I’m talking about! And home baked, thick crusted toast drenched in Raw Honey is really the icing on the cake. This dish was so good, I’d come here again and again, just for this.

The chilli cheese toast (RM13.90), Mumbai’s response to the Welsh rarebit, was a thick slice of toast grilled with bechamel, spring onions, green chillies & sambal (we could not really make out the sambal), topped with a sunny-side-up for extra sinfulness. Tasted a little strange, perhaps unaccustomed to those Indian overwhelming spices, so not my favourite.

Moving along the heavier, brunch items. We ordered the Chicken Pie, RM21.90 (we actually wanted the beef and mushroom pie but they were out), and the Old Fashion burger (RM20.90).

The burger patty was succulent and pretty good, but the Chicken Pie was dry. Definitely not our cup of tea, where pies are concerned.

A well cooked spaghetti (RM25.90), and by that we mean, al dente, only marred by the overly salty house-made duck bacon. The poached egg was creamy and runny, just the way we like it.

For the health conscious, the the Very Berry Acai (RM18.90) is a must order! Mixed berries, bananas, Almond butter, Superfood Acai, rich creamy Yoghurt, all blended into an ultra Smooth smoothie – wow, super yum.

Finally Beef lasagna (RM26.90), baked to a luscious golden-brown, pasta layers generously filled with minced beef, pastrami, smothered in parmesan and bechamel sauce meant that breakfast was drawing to a close.

Cakes & Coffee here are also a must order. A fabulous Macadamia Cheesecake, a 100% dark chocolate cake aptly named Chocolate Blackout and a creamy, latte, should be the way to end your session at Huckleberry.

It’s definitely worth checking Huckleberry’s ingredient-driven menu out, day or night, and oh, the cakes… don’t even get me started on the CAKES;)
