Huckleberry After Dark

Huckleberry after dark has a sinister ring to it, don’t you think?

I thought so, when I first heard it.

Well, on closer inspection one night, we realised that there was nothing sinister about the food offered at this Bukit Damansara boulangerie & bistro, at all. No, no, quite the opposite really.

Huckleberry is run by the folks behind Medan Damansara’s Mezze, and helmed by the same head chef Yves Pierre Renou, whom we are familiar with from Mezze. Huckleberry whilst famous for the morning breakfasts and coffee, has currently opened its doors, during the night, offering dinner & cocktails to a rather delighted clientele from the looks of things. The place was cosily packed when we visited them last weekend to check out ‘ Huckleberry after dark’.

The bird waffle is a must order!

This tastes so insanely decadent, words cannot describe it. The mouthfeel of crunchy crispy chicken fried just right, i.e. not soggy nor oily, against soft and fluffy waffles, is to die for, especially slathered in raw honey!  This was my favourite dish that night.

THE HOUSE GUAC  RM13.90 –  avocados, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, green chillies, jalapeños, lime juice

Unfortunately the house guac failed expectations as it employed a rather young, astringent guacamole which came across as young & sour rather than creamy and full bodied.

DROP THE BASS RM19.90, battered fish tacos with House Slaw, jalapeños & Pico de Gallo

Drop the bass – fish tacos, were slightly on the bland side.

K-POP FRENZY; 6 pcs RM19.90; 12 pcs RM37.90 – Korean chicken wings with spicy Gochujang sauce

The top layer was nice but unfortunately those wings that lay below were soggy and the batter too thick.

MAUI WAUI RM9.90, Freshly squeezed Watermelon, Lemon, Sugar, spiced with fresh jalapeños, topped with Sprite       

The Apple Calvados Sour (24.90)

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE CRUST RM32.90, breakfast pizza, served with homemade tomato sauce, chicken sausage, mushrooms, mozzarella, topped with an egg

Another one bites the crust was a great pizza especially for sharing.

JUAN IN A MILLION RM21.90, guacamole dog topped with house guacamole, Pico de Gallo, crushed tortilla chips

Juan in a million – guacamole hot dog, and again the guac was too astringent and not as palatable as a more ripe guac.

BEAST MODE RM26.90, BBQ Burger with 3 combo beef patty, house made BBQ Sauce, Barbacoa pulled beef, duck bacon, lettuce and fresh tomato

All I can say is… Beast Mode… ON!

This burger was the bomb! Succulent beef patty, pulled beef and duck bacon, the combo was just divine. The burger buns were soft yet retained their shape as well. A mighty fine specimen of a burger for sure.

The Ultimate Slushie (9.90)- fresh lychee and pineapple juice

The Mad Batter (19.90) – skillet chocolate pudding, with molten marshmallows, over chocolate fondant, cookie crumbs and served with butter biscuits.. super sweet. I’d only recommend it if you have an insanely sweet tooth!

All in all, Huckleberry after dark has a lovely cosy vibe about it. The ambiance is just too cool for school. We recommend you swing by and check it out for yourselves!
