Buffalo wings are at their best when eaten by the dozen, accompanied by beer and the sports channel at the pub. Alternatively, great cocktails also do them buffalo wings justice, so long as they are made right, with a tangy kick to cut the grease. Sometimes I like my buffalo wings with a glass of super chilled white wine as well. At Skybar, Traders Hotel, thankfully, they have all of the above.
Yes, we are talking deep-fried like Buffalo chicken wings, but with a sweet, savory coating that is perfectly executed, giving it that ideal tender-inside crispy-outside texture. Order these chicken wings alone or as part of a combo seafood bucket. The cocktails at Skybar are in a class of their own too. I hate watered down cocktails, and these I tell you are the real deal. The newest cocktail, Sky 33, is a winner.
It has apples, kafir lime leaf and vodka.. superb for a hot evening. (This is their latest cocktail for August)
The old classics include the Kiwitini (served in a champagne flute), Raised in Manhattan – raisins fused in Jim Bean ( dark red, in the martini glass), Lychee Rose and the Selangor Sling. The Matador is a mocktail, made with Red Bull (tall glass).
And as far as pub grub goes, the Nachos at Skybar are disgustingly good. This snack is lavishly served on a big plate, and as we all know, good nachos-making technique is all about balance and achieving a judicious distribution of toppings by maximizing surface area! And here at Skybar, they get the balance just right. That way every perfectly crisp tortilla chip gets some love. Some carry all the elements and flavors – spicy chili, a, oozy cheese sauce, piquant house-pickled jalapeños, diced tomatoes, onions and coriander, while others boast a bit of this and a hint of that. But nary a specimen lies forlorn and neglected at the bottom of the heap.. ah, Awesome stuff! The best catch phrase for these chips should possibly be – “No Tortilla Chip Left Behind”.
Oh, and you don’t need to be a Vegetarian to appreciate the wholesome goodness of these Vegetarian wraps. The tasty tortillas, stuffed with melted cheeses and marinated mushrooms and veggies, will have everyone singing their praises. These tortilla wraps make for a high-protein and high-fat vegetarian meal. Try adding a bit of sour cream or guacamole for an even heartier snack.
As for potato addicts, the chunky cut, golden brown, criss-cross waffle fries at Skybar that sport just a splash of oil and a pinch of salt and pepper, make for delicious snacks. They’re are served with the bucket, but can be perfect with anything from a burger to your buffalo wings. That crisp exterior texture that holds up against the impending threat of sogginess.. and then the soft, fluffy interior, filled with potato that’s cooked through but not dried out or raw-tasting.. mmm, yummie stuff! Again dip them in sour cream or guacamole to alleviate the experience to a whole new level.
the bucket is great for sharing, and feeds 4 comfortably
deep fried mozzarella cheese sticks, served on a bed of chips
cheesy interior with one jalapeno chili at the heart of it
vegetarian quesadillas – good option if you don’t eat meat
grilled salmon teriyaki skewers
Skybar.. that favourite chill out place of many, in the sky.. where cocktails, finger-food and good conversation flow freely.. and not forgetting, a great view.
