Catena Zapata Wines @ Prime Le Meridien KL

Back to Prime KL, and this time, for one of its legendary Wine-Food Pairing dinners.

Catena Zapata, a family-owned winery, was founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant who planted his first vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina. After more than a hundred years, Catena Zapata is now known as one of Argentina’s high altitude Malbec pioneers. As one of the most famous houses in Argentina, the Catena story has always been a tale of tradition and progress. Nicolas Catena, third generation family vintner and grandson of Nicola, took over the winery in the 1960s and was one of the first to see the potential of Mendoza’s mountain vineyards for producing high quality Malbec. In 1994, he became the first Argentine to export a world-class bottling of Malbec under the Catena label.

Bring the wines to PRIME was no mistake. Chef Ramiro Moya hails from Argentina too, and grew up under the influence of the Latin food culture and passion for fresh ingredients, which in turned developed his love for food and cooking. Upon graduation from Arrayanes Institute of International Cuisine Argentina, he set off to continue his love affair with food by working with some of the best restaurants and luxury hotel chains in various international locations, such as Chile, New Zealand and Dubai.
