We just celebrated our 11th anniversary at Maison Francaise, and I have to say, we were thoroughly impressed with the new menu.
scallops carpaccio, marinated cucumber, and tomatoes
Chef Thierry has incorporated all the Mediterranean influences of South France, and the degustation menus, while exquisite, maintain a light and refreshing balance. None of that heavy cream that sometimes plague French cooking.
One of our top favourites – this grilled octopus, served with a black ‘Stone’, but which was in fact, deep fried crunchy spicy paprika laced potatoes! Loved the presentation and every mouthful of it.
Homemade smoked salmon, leek jelly, sauteed egg yolk drop
Eye catching summery degustations such as this smoked salmon number – loved the sweetness of the yolk that tempered the savory salmon and leek jelly to perfection.
Another whimsically pretty, and refreshing dish of scallop carpaccio..
scallops carpaccio, marinated cucumber, and tomatoes
excuse me while i ogle it a while longer.. so pretty! The crunch of the bed of cucumber and tomatoes was just too good for words..
sweet corn soup, sautéed prawn, green oil
a deep sweetness and fragrance that can only be imparted by freshly pureed corn. I’m not usually one to make a fuss over soups, let alone corn soup, but this dish was divine.
Beetroot tartin tart, horseradish sauce
The idea of caramelising some fruity, round, sweet things & topping them with puff pastry, then flipping it upside down, gives me goosebumps. And this beetroot tartin was no exception – fabulously buttery, crunchy, earthy and sweet all at the same time!
Pan seared scallop, fennel cream – good choice for seafood lovers.
Roasted chicken breast, mushrooms sauce, chickpea puree, and Vonnassiennes potatoes – loved the chickpea sauce that was rich, smooth and heady with flavour all at once.
Sea bass in pear and parsley sauce, served with stuffed okra and asparagus
It is precisely these sort of mediterranean or south of France influence, that I really liked about Maison’s new menu. The employment of okra was just exquisite. It shows that dishes don’t have to be cream heavy to be powerpacked with flavour!
The pear and parsley sauce was super yum!
One of our top favourites – this grilled octopus, served with a black ‘Stone’, but which was in fact, deep-fried crunchy spicy paprika laced potatoes! Loved the presentation and every mouthful of it.
Not actually a stone, as closer inspection revealed. The taste and texture were more like that of a crunchy hash-brown. So sinfully addictive.
Pan seared cod fish, marinated grape, grape sauce
Again, a superb dish made all the more exciting by the grape sauce and peeled grape garnishing. The sweetness (yet lightness) was just unreal. Best dish ever – we think it should be submitted for a culinary award this one.
gorgeous!
Brittany biscuit, cream cheese and red fruit
When it comes to cookies, I don’t like them sweet. This traditional cookie from the Bretagne (Brittany) in France is so plain and simple, that the ingredients really shine. It is made of flour, sugar, egg, and the famously delicious salted butter (beurre demi-sel) of the region. It reminds me of shortbread or sablé cookies but not as rich – terrifically more-ish accompanied by the cream cheese and berries.
Jivara chocolate cylinder, Valrhona chocolate, and nut pebbles
You’re supposed to crack open the log, and mix the contents together. Anyway this dessert already had me at dark, decadent Valrhona chocolate!
Sauteed pear in Brittany butter, chocolate mousse, pistachio biscuit
Suffice to say, we really overate, but then again, your 11th anniversary only comes around, once in a lifetime.. so, live it up, as they say, and don’t regret anything;)
Maison Francaise new menu, comes highly recommended. We would not hesitate to recommend its latest degustation menu to anyone.
