Get your Pizza Game Face on… Brûlée Brasserie

Pizza.. one of those iconic dishes that’s so polarized that it’s not uncommon to overhear debates about what constitutes a good pizza.. thin crust, thick crust, wood-fired… and don’t even get us started on the toppings.

Well then, they do make their pizzas a little differently at Brûlée Brasserie using a cracker-thin crust that’s unusual if you prefer your doughs chewy. However, the kitchen more than makes up for it with ingenious toppings that are lush and generous. If you’re coming here for pizzas, you’re definitely coming here for the creative toppings.

Yes you read right. Nasi lemak, Super Mario, Pesto Caviar to name a few exciting creations, and if you note the prices, not that expensive either. Think artisanal beers, coffee, even wines (though a limited range), to wash your 10″ pizzas down with, in a real chillaxed environment.

Nasi lemak pizza.. either you’ll love it or hate it. It sounds so strange slathered in cheese, but it actually worked. With generous toppings of sambal, onions, peanuts, cucumbers and hard-boiled egg, that were spilling off the thin pizza crust, there was little to complain about.

Strictly non-halal, this Big breakfast pizza hit the sweet spot where bacon resides. Think curls of smoky bacon, pork sausages, baked beans, onions and to seal the deal, a lovely sunny side up egg as its crowning glory. What an apt name for this pizza.

My favourite of these, looks like a super healthy option, but the flavours were nothing to scoff at. The Pesto Caviar really knocked the ball out of the park. I give credit to the fact that a cilantro (coriander) pesto sauce was employed, rather than a basil pesto. So, either you’ll love it or hate it because it’s pungent with that characteristic, overwhelming coriander fragrance. The zing and fishy caviar was nicely tempered by this very pesto sauce. What an amazing pizza topping!  Actually I have to say here that I am, in fact, a huge fan of doughy, chewy pizza so if the crust had been different, it would have been just my perfect dream pizza!

The Super Mario and Moroccan beef.. love the names!

The Super Mario was bursting with mushrooms & my favourite of these, the Portobello. I did ask the chef, how on earth they made any profit from a pizza like this, at that price, and he muttered.. very little. Wow – mushroom lovers rejoice – this is one heck of a great mushroom pizza topping.

The Moroccan beef – you will smell the spices right off the first bite – nice but a little too sweet for me.

Face stuffing.. favourite past-time;)

Watering can? No.. creme brulee

Brulee Brasserie used to only specialize in Creme Brulee desserts, and you can see why. This Red Tea version of the Creme Brulee was delicious! We highly recommend you end your pizza pig out session with any one of their 9 flavours.

A great little place, a wee bit hidden from the eye (1st floor towards the end of the block) at Casa Tropicana condo, but really worth the find. Especially if you like unconventional pizzas. We highly recommend you try it!
