Wine tasting events at La Bodega over the weekends, is something folks should look out for, especially those who love their wines.
The wines features this time round included great cuvees such as Bodega Garzon Tannat, Chateau d’Antugnac Limoux White ‘Terres Amoureuses’, Chateau Fontarèche Corbières ‘Vieilles Vignes’ White, Domaine Fontarèche Syrah, Leeuwenkuil Vineyards ‘Family Reserve’ Red, Leeuwenkuil Vineyards ‘Family Reserve’ White, Tucumen Malbec, Viu Manent Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Viu Manent Reserva Sauvignon Blanc, Viu Manent ‘Secreto’ Syrah and the Viu Manent ‘Secreto’ Viognier.
Loved this red that comes from the signature Uruguayan grape varietal, grown in the fertile soils of Garzón. The Tannat was an intense red and black fruit wine with lingering aftertaste, softness yet structure. Loved the silky tannins and supple mouthfeel of this fabulous red wine.
French sommelier for the evening was David Stephan.. nice fellow who provided insights on the wines at hand..
On the food front, to start off with, we were served Cocktail Canapés, Pipparas & Spanish Anchovies Skewer, Beef Cecina & Roquefort on Baguette and Olivas Marinadas – Marinated green and black olives.
Fresh Tasmanian Oysters on ice served with citrus, rock salt and hot sauce
Then came the Buffet Spread of Pan Con Tomate & Reganas, Tortilla Espanola – Spanish Omelette With Potatoes & Onions, Tumbet – Grilled Zucchini, potatoes, eggplant, & capsicum with pepper sauce, Flamenquines – Rolled breaded chicken breast with turkey ham and iberico olive oil cheese, Estofado De Carrileras De Ternera – Braised angus beef cheek, Almejas Con Manzanilla… to name a few..
And oh, my all time favourite.. the massive couldren of Spanish rice cooked with prawns, chicken, Spanish mussels & clams in a paella with saffron, peppers & peas!
For Dessert there was Spiced Pineapple Terrine and Crema Catalana.
Priced at just RM100 nett per head, these events are really value for money. A great opportunity to sample great wines from across the globe, paired with fine Spanish cuisine.. very little to complain about!
