With two huge Malaysian celebrations coming up, Ramadan and Merdeka, NOSH is celebrating our local heritage over two months in their own special style.
Speaking to Ann and Judith, they felt that creating some new, exciting Malaysian contemporary dishes, was one of the best ways to celebrate being Malaysians.
And really, what do Malaysians generally love the most, if not food.. and eating great food!
Of course, it goes without saying that NOSH is all about, great food.
Their motto is to expand the taste horizons and to take their customers on a food journey that both excites as well as ignites the tastebuds.
Grilled Kurau RM42 ‐ succulent fillet of ikan kurau well seasoned in our special marinade served with spinach & yellow lentil dhal with grilled seasonal vegetables
Nosh never fails to impress us with their uncompromising, high quality food and desserts. It almost does not make economic sense to lavish such attention to ingredients and the esthetics of the final product but the two ladies in charge are so passionate, it is easy to see where they are coming from. And for as long as they keep up this insane quality in food, I am sure the place will continue to thrive and prosper, as it is right now.
Calamari Cucumber Salad RM29 ‐ fresh ribbons of crisp cucumber intermingled with zesty grapefruit pieces tossed in a “nam jim” dressing topped with crispy calamari rings
This Calamari dish was a delight visually as well in the mouth. Crispy, well battered calamari which was not too salty, was complemented to perfection with a tangy nam jim dressing and bitter sweet explosions of grapefruit. What a lovely concoction!
Penne Lamb Rendang RM38 ‐ our fusion take on the infamous lamb rendang, which we gently simmer in a harmony of local spices deftly served with penne pasta
A great one for meat lovers. I liked the sauce but found the lamb a little heavy going.
Ayam Masak Merah RM32 ‐ a tantalizing twist on a local favourite: chicken braised in spicy aromatic tomato gravy with fresh herbs, served with flavoursome cous cous & tangy salad
This was a beautifully marinaded piece of chicken – tender and fall of the bone, all the while retaining its succulence. The spicy aromatic tomato gravy with fresh herbs was well balanced in flavours, but we found the cous cous slightly overcooked.
Pandan Delicio – pandan chiffon, gula melaka, buttercream, candied coconut cake.. what a winning combo!
The highlight for me, was this new cake, called the Pandan Delicio. Butter cream lovers, rejoice! This is the cake for you. My only complaint was that it should have had more butter cream.. but that’s just me;) Light, airy pandan chiffon, gula melaka and even candied coconut made this cake a sweet winner.
Fruits of the Forest Chocolate Pavlova RM 18 – A crisp chocolate meringue lusciously topped with a rich indulgent chocolate mousse, fresh mixed berries, with drops of zingy raspberry coulis
Another visual masterpiece. I loved the wild berries and rich chocolate mousse that made a change from the normal cream pavlovas you get in town.
Bubur Cacar Panna Cotta RM 17 – Creamy panna cotta made with coconut cream served with yam, sweet potato pieces, sago & palm sugar syrup
This would have to be my second favourite cake at Nosh, after the Pandan Delicio. Omg.. wobbly, smooth, creamy panna cotta served with chunky bits of yam, sweet potato and topped off with chewy sago pearls and palm sugar.. what sorcery (or should I say “saucery”) is this..? I was definitely under its spell.
Mango Crème Brulee RM 18 – Fragrant mango crème brulee with the signature caramelized sugar crust topped with freshly whipped cream & a chocolate cigar
My companions loved this dessert, but I am not a big fan of creme brulee so I can’t really comment.
Carrot Walnut Cake RM 18 – A moist carrot walnut cake topped with scrumptious french cream cheese ice cream & a carrot tuile carrot with raisin coulis
And finally, the carrot walnut cake. Another fine work of art. The icing on the cake was the french cream cheese ice-cream that just elevated the flavors to a whole new level.
What can I say? Nosh is really setting the standards in fine food and cakes, and I am a fan.
