Who wouldn’t want to stay at The Ritz Carlton KL .. ?
Ritz-Carlton is one of our favorite hotels because it not only is a leading brand in luxury lodging, but it is also a friendly place to stay at, with efficient and approachable staff. Its unique culture can be summed up as a group of ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen! I love courteous folk, and these guys are always serving you with a smile.
So what are the things that make the Ritz Carlton a great place to stay at? Well, 3 Things.
1. Location
The Ritz Carlton KL has absolutely the best location in town, and where luxury travelers want to stay. Located downtown in the Golden Triangle business district, I like the convenient access to KL’s most popular shopping street, dining and entertainment. Home to the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers (a 10 minute walk from the Hotel via an air-conditioned walkway), it’s easy to see why the RCKL might be a rather popular choice for luxury travelers visiting KL.
2. Product
The most comfortable rooms, state of the art amenities, gym, spa and F&B outlets, are what travelers want these days, and will probably still want tomorrow. You can definitely feel how RCKL pumps in huge investments to keep the premises in tip top condition. The food is excellent too. We love the English high tea on the weekends, dining at Li Yen, Cesar, as well as the fantastic pampering sessions at the Village Spa. The rooms include fancy amenities like luxurious high thread-count and the 464-square-meter penthouse on the top floor overlooks Bukit Bintang’s shopping and entertainment district.
Then there is also the Ritz-Carlton Rewards programme that enhances the value of your stay through opportunities to enjoy more of what the brand has to offer. With each stay at any participating Ritz-Carlton property, you’ll accrue either points or airline miles – along with a host of luxury promotions throughout the year. With this you can upgrade to Silver, Gold or Platinum Elite membership, which pushes your stay up to the next level.
complimentary fruit platter and decadent chocolates in your private suite
bird’s nest soup
Dinner at Li Yen is not to be missed. We had dinner there on two nights, and we had some awesome dishes. Amongst them were a birds nest soup and abalone starter.
abalone the size of my head!
super thick, juicy abalone.. we couldn’t get over how tasty it was..
cod fish – fatty and cooked just right ( I hate overcooked cod but Li Yen does it just right)
sweet and sour beef … amazingly tender
tofu layered with spinach, mushrooms and deep fried baby shrimp
crazy tasty lotus leaf rice
the smoothes almond soup dessert on earth..
Li Yen’s smiley chef – though he was swamped preparing for guests at a wedding banquet, he managed this winning smile for us. Such a nice guy!
With a meal like that, the next day we hit the gym..
Choose your poison.. bike, run, swim, whatever.. so long as you burn some fat!
And of course, the all essential weights training to burn off the calories from all that eating we’ve been doing
It’s nice to reward yourself by relaxing in the gym sauna or steam room after that..
Or better yet.. the Village Spa (read our account here)
And then it’s time for tea at the Lounge..
Choose your tea from a rather comprehensive selection of imported gourmet tea..
then choose your sweets from the mobile counter..
all that remains is to sit back and enjoy high tea.. I could do this all weekend!
3. People
Back to the ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen. The butler service is something that sometimes startles me, but in a good way. You open the door and there they are (not 1 but 2 butlers!) ready to usher you down to your next appointment be it a spa or dinner. Seriously folks, luxurious rooms aside, it’s the Ritz-Carlton’s butlers who make stays special. Their track record in filling guest requests includes locating and purchasing a 1950s German World Cup jersey worn by one of the original squad members! One time, our internet hub was spoilt and they changed it in no time – when we got back to the room, it was already there.
our two butlers sorting out our internet hub for us.. very efficient guys, and they work around the clock
Another great surprise was one night after dinner, we returned to a romantically lit room – and someone had run the bubble bath for us, complete with incense, candles and incandescent lighting. Tres Tres romantic! These are the tiny surprises that sets the RCKL apart for other hotels.
ah.. the perfect ending to a perfect day, be it the single traveller or the couple, it is always nice to come home to a bubble bath, don’t you think?
As a customer, I also appreciated the fact that the staff would ask us things like – How was the meal? Was the buffet hot? Was the service good? Did you like the menu? How was your room service? Was your bedroom clean?
It takes a long time to build a culture, and The Ritz Carlton KL has got it. And a great one at that.
