The next property I had the pleasure of visiting was the Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach, Phuket.
Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket is a more secluded piece of property than the Mövenpick Resort on Karon, and its accommodation combines luxury and stylish comfort located right on Bangtao Beach, one of the nicest beaches of Phuket.
Bangtao beach – my absolute favourite stretch of beach in all of Phuket
Mövenpick Bangtao Beach Phuket is a 40-minute drive from Phuket International Airport and Patong Beach is a 30-minute drive away. With its idyllic setting and peaceful atmosphere amid the natural greenery with turquoise blue sea and white sandy beach nearby, this is by far, my favourite strip of beach as it is pristine, and slightly less busy than the other beaches. At over eight kilometres long, Bangtao is the second longest beach on Phuket and you can jog for at least an hour in the mornings.
looks can be deceiving but Bangtao beach spans 8KM – great for my morning run!
The northern half of the beach has been annexed by the ultra-luxurious Laguna Complex of five-star hotels, but there’s still plenty of sand to share. The area around Bangtao was formerly tin-mining country and the Laguna Complex’s artificial lakes are pits that are filled with water and landscaped to a thing of beauty. Much of northern Phuket, Bangtao included, was almost completely abandoned when the mines ran dry. It wasn’t until tourists began to arrive in large numbers that interest in Bangtao was re-sparked, and parcels of land were quickly developed.

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket
The Mövenpick property itself is amazing. Moevenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket is a luxury resort-style residences facing the stunning Bangtao Beach and famous among golfers, with several world class and challenging courses within a 20 minutes drive including Blue Canyon Country Club, Laguna Phuket Golf Club, Mission Hills Phuket Golf Club and Red Mountain Phuket Golf Course. Moevenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket has 39 suites and penthouses and full facilities to boot.
A 48-metre lap pool with pool bar and Jacuzzi nestled amid the tranquillity of lush gardens, all day dining restaurant and bars, fitness centre with state-of-art equipment from techno gym and outdoor Jacuzzi, an indulgent Blossom Spa with separate male and female dressing room each with sauna, steam room and dip pool, business centre and Palm Gallery, all within easy reach.
This resort pulls off classic Thai mixed in with contemporary designs and the entire property has a nice airy feel about it. Not stifling nor over the top gaudy, as some more opulent 5-star resorts can be. Bright and breezy, all residences offer living and dining areas, fully equipped kitchens and oversized balconies that are great if you don’t want to feel hemmed in on holiday. Each suite and penthouse comes with modern lifestyle amenities including massive, contemporary master bedrooms and guest rooms all with en-suite bathrooms. This resort is also really big on jacuzzis, and even the rooms are named after them – the highest end room is called the Royal Jacuzzi Penthouse and it has the hugest most luxurious jacuzzi I have ever seen on earth.

I am ushered to my room and I think it’s a rather nice touch that I can register in the comforts of my own room!
I cannot believe that this is one of the smallest rooms on the property, because it is huge! I stayed at the Seaview Pool Suite with 2 bedrooms and it was an entire 216 sqm of expansive living space with a living/dining area, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
the master bedroom.. there were two of these
my own private pool!
The lounge chairs, table and chairs on the terrace face the beautiful views of the Andaman Sea. This is where you can catch the sunset and if you do not want to go out to the main pool or the beach, you can always laze by your private pool instead. A lovely choice indeed for a couple or small family. Seaview Pool Suites can accommodate a maximum of 3 persons. For those who like to be near the pool, there is the Pool Suite 1 or 2 bedrooms. This is just like the room I got, except that it faces the pool instead of the Andaman Sea.
complimentary fruit basket, canapes (in the fridge) and a bottle of grand cru wine.. this is the life!
bangtao beach lies just beyond..
Well as you can probably tell, the rooms at Movenpick Bangtao are more spacious than those at Movenpick Karon Beach. At Bangtao, they definitely cater to larger families and groups of people seeking a holiday home where they can cook as well as “live-in” so to speak, and not have to leave the grounds of the resort at all if they didn’t want to.
The other rooms that are available include , the Classic Room – Classic Rooms are conveniently located in the main building near to the all day dining restaurant, spa, fitness centre and kiosk. Then there’s the Residence 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. The 3 bedroom Residence is pretty swanky. It has a built up of 248 sqm and has a living/dining area adjoining a fully-equipped kitchen. The Master bedroom has a king-size bed, flat screen TV and a large private balcony. The bathroom have separate shower and WC cubicles, 2 wash basins and bidet with a separate bathtub. There’s tons of space to move around the bathroom.
The living/dining area is great for catching up with close friends or family has a dining table with chairs, a sofa, flat screen TV, DVD home theatre and Bose surround sound system. You could host a small party in here with no problems at all. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors offer magnificent tropical garden or lagoon views across the living room and open to the large private balconies. One of the balconies has outdoor furniture to relax and enjoy the views.

And if the Residence does not quite cut it, in terms of luxury living, you can always check into the Seaview Jacuzzi Penthouse instead – The Seaview Jacuzzi Penthouse with 3 bedrooms is slightly larger at 338 sqm, than the previous room. It has a massive dining area adjoining a fully-equipped kitchen and a large, private terrace featuring an outdoor Jacuzzi. The living and dining area is spacious and again ideal for entertaining close friends or family members. Glass sliding doors open to the large private balcony with lounge chairs where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the sea.

Finally we reach the rolls royce of rooms.. the Royal Jacuzzi Penthouse. The Royal Jacuzzi Penthouse is the ultimate in fine living! Book this room and you will probably not want to step outside for the rest of your holiday.
With 3 bedrooms and a space of 360 sqm, you get some fabulous panoramic views of the sea. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors open to the large private balcony with an oversized Jacuzzi Pavilion and lounge chairs where you can enjoy the beautiful sounds of the and view of the sea. This is the jacuzzi I was talking about earlier.. the mother of all jacuzzis!

All bedrooms have a king-size bed, flat screen TV, writing desk and open to a private balcony. All bathrooms have separate showers and WC cubicles, 2 wash basins and bidet. The Master bedroom is spacious and stylishly furnished with a beautiful ensuite bathroom featuring a bathtub, walk-in-wardrobe and private balcony with sea views. The Royal Jacuzzi Penthouse is supposed to accommodate a maximum of 7 persons, but I am thinking 10, easy!
Later, I went out for the entire day of Island hopping and shopping. My body was completely battered by the time I got home. I feared I had a mild case of sun stroke. No matter, it was almost time for my Mövenpick Resort Bangtao, spa treatment, and I knew I would soon get to experience some incredibly soothing treatments at their state of the art spa- the Blossom Spa. I was pleasantly surprised that they custom made my spa treatment for me. If you wanted a longer massage you could request for it. Or if you wanted a particular exfoliating treatment, that could be arranged too. No, is not in their vocabulary here. Nice!
The Blossom Spa specializes in traditional Thai massages, facials treatment, exfoliations, wraps and they even have a beauty salon for head to toe pampering. Since I had already done the exfoliating massage in Movenpick Karon, I opted for the simple yet effective 2 hour Thai massage here at the Blossom Spa. The lady was tiny but amazingly strong. After putting on the the Thai sarong and t-shirt, she gave me the best 2 hour massage of my life. Lots of cracking and pulling but she knew what she was doing!
After your spa you might what to relax for a bit by the pool and then head on our to lunch or dinner depending on the time of day. At Bangtao there is only one main dining restaurant which is the The Palm Cuisine and Terrace. Here, the Chef does his best to create some elegantly plated Thai cuisine. I appreciated the fact that everything was served degustation style.. small plates of beautifully arranged thai cuisine. I am definitely coming back for more of his fine cooking! The Palm Cuisine and Terrace is all day dining restaurant offers both outdoor and indoor seating with views of the swimming pool. It is separated to open air area and air-condition area offering for Thai classics and traditional western favorites.

lap mu (Spicy Mince Pork and Chilli) – my absolute favourite.. and served degustation style.. how trendy!
Pad thai – again.. degustation portions.. just nice for the hot weather..
And if all that fine dining and great food is getting you soft around the middle, then you can always check out the Fitness Centre at Movenpick Bangtao. It is great for the true fitness enthusiast.. complete with steam & sauna, dip pools & outdoor pool with Jacuzzi. There are separate changing rooms and lockers for men and ladies. Also separate steam & saunas. And for the early riser, the gym is open daily from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm.

There is also a Games Room and Children’s Play Area where children can enjoy football table and indoor mini-golf putting. And in the evenings if playing pool and having cocktails by the beach is your thing, you can head on down to the beach and check out the Palm Beach Club..

And that concludes my time at Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket. Great food, friendly staff and spacious living quarters.. Will I miss it? Hell yeah.. but I can always come back. And I will too, no doubt about that!
