myElephant Thai Restaurant @ Happy Mansion, PJ

New Folder5

One of the few contemporary Thai restaurants in the PJ vicinity – myElephant, by DooDee is cosy and normally packed to the rafters with young people and families as well. Its strategic location in PJ and free parking is a real bonus that has served myElephant well because eventhough this restaurant is no longer new, it can still pull an evening crowd. Maybe it’s the fact that the place is so cramped and short of space, that it looks perpetually full. Great marketing strategy I say!

Apparently, the Chef, Nikom is Thai. His hometown is Chiang Rai (northern thailand) and this in itself, is a big plus. It’s getting harder and harder to find Thai chefs in Thai restaurants these days if you ask me.

Collages
I find the Thai food just OK … Of course I have had better Thai cuizine but the convenience of location/parking (we being PJ folk ourselves) and the the affordable prices at myElephant, makes this place hard to resist for a mid-week, fuss-free, zippy, wholesome Thai dinner.

I've been twice to "My Elephant". Their foods are so so only. But, i quite like the cosy environment.

  • Paranoid Android says:

OK… Will check that place out soon! So many years in Thailand, and really missing good Thai Food back in Malaysia. I found the food at the swanky Thai restaurants a bit watered down.

The only authentic one is a papa mama joint at Changkat BB. Somtam with real Thai fermented fish (pla ra), preserved crab (poo) and extra pungent pork ball Tom Sep. 😀

  • fatboybakes says:

Paranoid Android : There is a pretty authentic one down in Menjalara area as well. Been raining lately, put the umbrella to good use yet?

Ciki : Cheeky blog title 😛

  • qwazymonkey says:

Well you can't have everything now can you? 3 outta 5 is good enough for me lah. Now pass me the Mian Kam.

I thought they closed shop-was there a few times-shutters was down.

  • Paranoid Android says:

Unkaleong: Yes ar? Never tried that one. Will do 3 somersaults and swallow a knife for some Laotian Duck Salad + Sticky Rice now!

The brolly is still in a virgin, pristine state. By the time I finish working, the skies have dried.

C&C: Do they serve wine there or must I bring my own Sangthip? Agrees with Unka about the title!

  • Sean says:

i've only been here once, but i didn't have to chance to try their duck curry with avocado and the salt-baked fish. sighhh, been meaning to come back someday to sample those … but it sounds like the place is flourishing, so no rush to return! 😀

  • "Joe" who is constantly craving says:

  • thule a.k.a leo says:

hmmm… maybe it will satisfy my taste bud since I am not fussy at all 🙂 not to say that you are fussy but obviously you had better Thai food elsewhere before.

  • Lisa says:

Happy Mansions seems to be quite the oasis of decent food joints.

Sakaigirl: Paku is available at Sri Nyonya Restaurant (which is reviewed on this blog) in two styles: fried with sambal and kerabu which is a cold salad.

Tell them you heard about it from this blog when you go.
