Plan B at Publika was not our first choice. Ten was closed for the Long Chinese New Year weekend and so that’s how we ended up at Plan B, the newest outlet at Publika, under the BIG group of restaurants. Plan B at Publika looks like a modern Aussie-meets-New York-deli, and its menu boasts of hearty breakfasts, contemporary salads, wholesome sandwiches made with freshly baked breads, a myriad of pastas, and a variety of rustic cakes and desserts. Well, we liked the look and set up, but we silently hoped that the service would not be as slow as the Plan B in Bangsar Village.
Journal by Plan B at Publika, Solaris Dutamas
Since Plan B at Publika is supposedly famous for its coffee, ( I read somewhere that this modern coffee shop prides itself in its specialist coffee blend and its seasonal selection of single origin beans, all roasted and ground fresh in-house daily.. etc etc) I just had to try it. Apart from the usual styles, the cafe also offers alternative brewing methods such as siphon, French Press and Pour Over. Very impressive, but for the moment, I’ll just have my Italian Iced Coffee. The coffee was good – a fabulous aroma and a terrific caffeine kick to it. I was all smiles.
slurps Italian Ice coffee in glee!
Actually, this place goes by the name Journal by Plan B. Does it give discounts to journalists? I am not sure, but since I am not one, I didn’t ask anyway. The deco in this joint is rather haphazard with no one particular theme reigning supreme. There are LCD screens showing old P Ramlee black and white films. There are antique cameras on display along with laboratory beakers and scientific paraphernalia. What has all these to do with a Journal, I have no clue. But who cares.. on to the food..
Slow-Cooked Ox Tongue with hot English Mustard
I’m a sucker for tongue. So it was with great relish that I read, Slow-Cooked Ox Tongue with hot English Mustard on wholemeal bread, served with gherkin & chips on the menu. Yes, that would be my lunch. There’s a similar sandwich and Bens General Food Store and I supposed that this would not be too far off the mark from what the other BIG outlet offered.
beef burger with cheese and onion rings, and a side of fries and salad
The husband decided to have the beef burger. One can hardly go wrong with that. When the burger arrived, as in, when it did finally arrive , it tasted OK, but the patty was on the mushy side. My ox tongue sandwich was tasty enough, but nothing to shout about. The bread it arrived between was slightly hard and cold. Service was slow as well as it took 40 minutes to get our food. However, I must say that they sure were generous with their gherkins. I got entire one and could hardly finish it.
Plan B deco – cute but confused..
Plan B at Publika is OK for a quick lunch, but it will remain at best, our second choice, when all else is closed. Sad but true.
After lunch, a quick walk around Ben’s Independent Grocer
We were surprised to find the items reasonably priced – same range as Village Grocers really
Malaysians like to sniff their fruits before buying them..
Fresh as Fresh Gets.. Hydroponic veges anybody?
interesting deco
a chocolate bar that sells local chocolates – samples tasted great .. could not tell that they were not imported chocolates
S.wine deli.. selling piggy of course
We will definitely be back to check out Ten again next week! Another great reason to walk around Publika, Solaris Dutamas and window shop some more.

I do like the food at Plan B, the service at the Bangsar branch has improved.
I have not been..
Cumi sniffing produce to see if it’s fresh = so cute! 😀
LOL 😛
Yes, Plan B service has improved at Bangsar Village.
And for the WORST Service Award has now gone to DELICIOUS MID VALLEY. i was not the only one who complained about the waiters pretended not to notice when customers waved for service. To make things worse, the manager there was indifffent when complained to him.
terrible indeed!
I never liked Plan B in Bangsar Village. The food has been disappointing so far and service is terrible. I’d rather dine at Ben’s. 😀
LOL, I like Ben’s too;)
Like I say – nose is the best judge of freshness!
true!
Food at Plan B was slightly overpriced for me 🙁
what did you have?
Service is a hard trick to get right anywhere, let alone KL. I would love the BIG group’s chain to nail it on the service across the board.
GXFC btw! HF
I agree;)
We were at Plan B for lunch yesterday. We asked for a table for 2 and the waiter just asked us to go in and look for a seat ourselves. Next, it took 3 waiters/waitresses to attend to us before we even had our hands on the menu! A few of them practically ignored us when we requested for the menu and finally, we were handed the menu when we threatened to leave!
Food finally arrived – mushroom soup that tasted more like mushroom broth, the ham and turkey sandwich was nothing to shout about. Pasta was ok. Verdict: i wouldn’t return to this place even if it’s free! The food is not worth waiting for, let alone the service which really puts us both so off! We actually made a remark to the waiter!
I’m going back to Antipodeon @ Bangsar anytime though the aircondition could be better though at times …
