Jaya ONE is starting to fill up with interesting restaurants. The office lots are not in full swing yet.. but soon.. real soon…
Walking through Jaya One feels like walking around during a holiday at some Bazaar…
Airy, roomy and dazzling white !
We love the pretty lanterns, we do… all gorgeous and colourful and shiny and billowing in the breeze:)
Here are some of the restaurants/bistros which have opened up in the inner court…
The last time we were here, was like 6 months ago… that time we ate at
DUCKING.
This time we wanted to try something different.
We saw this place called Tappers which was packed to the rafters – a good sign. We decided to go in.
My, my .. no wonder the crowd. The set menu was really cheap!
Very reasonable prices for an air-conditioned, comfortable cafe setting.
Here is my Hainanese Chicken Chop. (Obviously not as good as Yut Kee, Jln Dang Wangi but pretty ok la). The portion was small but the taste was acceptable. Nothing fantastic but for those prices, what do you expect eh..
The peas were hard.. but not frozen .. thank god… :O
The bangers and mash were also average…
But look at the bill… ain’t it affordable? No wonder so many executives eat here… Cheap minus the SWEAT.
A break from the normal coffee shop routine.. but nothing more, i guess.
Ok… so what’s next?? The portions were so small, we went looking for dessert.
Ooo… we ‘spy with our little eye’ nyonya cakes at Brisik!
Walking upstairs, we were greeted by really cute, vibrant deco… erm, but an empty room.
Where were all the patrons?!
Anyway we ordered the cakes and some Irish coffee..
Yikes! the cake was HARD! And it lacked any santan taste or aroma…
Check out the irish coffee. What you see on the left is the MENU picture. What you see on the right is the TRUE picture… haha… bad shape man.
Funny thing was that this tea, cost as much as the lunch we had in Tappers… Never again, i tell ya.
The only good thing, that Brisik has going for them, is the laid-back upper deck patio it has.
Best thing is to organise an event here.. but BYOF… you have been warned !
On the way home, i caught sight of something that made my eyes light up… ! HALO CAFE! Opening soon. Man, i used to looooooooove this place … the one in KL. Near Petaling St… I think it was situated on Jalan Balai Polis. That was like a loooooooooong time ago, back when I first came back from studies (yes, i am that old). We were so impressed with this place because it was one of the first open-mic cafes in KL… Granted the singers/music was mainly in Chinese, and we understood little of it… but no matter.. we loved the vibe anyway.
The drinks were cool.
I hope this place picks up, i DO 😉
yerrrr….the sight of that irish coffee will haunt me the whole day lar…so X-files, haha!
nice pic of the patio.
I did passby tappers but, didn’t go in because their menu seems like with very little of choices only^^
OMG I remember Halo Cafe too…very cool lepak place for me and my friends! (and no, we didn’t understand much of it either)
nic:
x-files, twilight zone.. all in one.. 🙁 haha
shell:
small menu.. even smaller prices 😉
lyrical lemongrass:
maybe we sat next to you at Halo.. and didn’t even know it !
Brisik? Looks like a nice place but WTH with the irish coffee? So big difference!
Was attracted by the nice patio of Brisik, but the food u describe were so…arghh..
Btw Tappers set lunchs available on weekday only?
heard alot abt the area..its really time to visit!
I passed by this place yesterday. Shall check it out next time, thanks for the review.
ps: I was tempted to buy the kuihs from the same outlet too. Judging by your comments, luckily I didn’t. ;p
jason:

mycoffee:
yah yah yah.. try something else… let me know how it was .. lol
Oh gosh! Halo Cafe! I remember those days and the outlet you’re talking about. Nostalgia habis! 😉
yeah you’re right, Tappers dirt cheap, but nothing special. The bangers and mash looks like well, sausages and mashed potatoes. hahaha … and PEAS?!!! can’t they just make some salad huh?
Jaya ONE is shaping to be another cool hangout place with lots of restaurants and cafe huh? will be sure to drop by next time.
kenny:
ya ya ya.. how .. wanna go hangout when it opens kah 😛

Hi…you mentioned Chicken chop at Yut Kee? Which part of Dang Wangi is that? My dad loves Hainanese Chicken chop and I wanna get it for him. Does it come with a tomato-based sauce?
BTW, I just discovered your blog and I love it! And it’s killing me just reading it at 12 am….got my saliva and digestive juices working overtime!
