Getting bored on holiday is never a good idea and so it helps if you have holiday activities to fill your hours with, both inside as well as outside of the hotel.
And that is why we go back to Movenpick Karon Phuket, time and again, when we visit the island. It is located in a strategic location, and also offers fun activities of the entire family.
Here’s 5 holiday activities to fill your waking hours at Movenpick Karon Beach –
1. Attend a cooking class
Thai cuisine is colorful, fragrant, spicy and sweet-savory, all at the same time. And if you’ve always wondered how they cook it, wonder no more. Add a culinary edge to your Phuket holiday by joining a classic Thai cooking class.
Our friendly Chefs and teachers!
Learn to make your own tom yum gung, green curry, phad Thai and red curry, in a friendly environment, taught by the experts.
If you are lucky you might even get inside knowledge as to how the local market is all about (which can be full of fun and surprises too) as in some classes the teachers take students to the market to handpick fresh ingredients.
This place has very cool and patient teachers, who also throw in interesting activities such as fruit and vegetable carving.
I like the way they teach you how to present food, from the kitchen to the table, and this was one of the best things about staying at Movenpick Karon, for me.
2. Run on the Beach
This is a no brainer. Running on holiday is a must! There’s just too much eating and drinking going on daily that we need to keep the ‘fats’ at bay. And that’s why we pick this part of Phuket to stay at.
Recently voted by Lonely Planet as one of the Top Ten Family Beach Holiday Destinations in the world, Karon Beach is the place to be. With a long beautiful beach and all the necessary facilities that visitors could need, there is no doubt that Karon is definitely a destination fit for travelers.
The beach is now pristine. They have done away with the touts and umbrella deck chairs. The sand is spanking clean now as well, with hardly any garbage or litter on the floor. And with no one around to harass you to buy fake watches etc, you can run and swim till your heart’s content. It’s around 3KM long, so up and down 3X will give you close to a 10KM run. Not bad at all!
3. Learn the art of Kick Boxing/ Muay Thai
Muay Thai aka. Thai Boxing is a physical and mental discipline which is also known as ‘the art of eight limbs’ due to its combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet.
It’s a tough sport that requires a lot of physical preparation and a full-on top-level fight is a veritable maze of feints, thrusts, maneuvers and full on head-bashing.
Well, thank God it’s not so hard core at Movenpick Karon! Here, if you enroll in the class, you will see that it’s a beginners class to the art of Muay Thai.
You will be thought all the moves (kicks, punches) and blocks, but minus the hard core stuff. Still, I managed to bust a nail and Cumi managed to make his shin bleed, so this is definitely a physical class. Join it if you have at least a moderate level of fitness, is my advice! We found it 100% exhilarating! Super fun and a real adrenalin ride.
And eventhough this discipline has been around since the sixteenth century, only lately has the number of people coming to Thailand to toughen up and get in the Muay Thai ring really exploded.
4. Visit Kata Rocks, then Rejuvenate at the Spa
Here’s another one of our recommendations. Visit Kata Rocks in the afternoon for some really chill out vibe and cocktails, then head back to Movenpick Karon for some Spa.
A 100% relaxation vacation is what I am talking about. And we suggest visiting off peak, if you don’t like hoards of people in your face.
Kata Rocks that overlooks the Andaman Sea, is a truly remarkable resort and private residence. They have amazing Sky Villas set around large airy living areas, open plan kitchens and private swimming pools.
The oceanfront resort is perched on a small cape between Kata and Kata Noi beach. We recommend visiting the Bar and Restaurant at Kata Rocks and watching the languorous tides roll in. Ponder it all from beneath white umbrellas shading contemporary sunbeds while lying in the resort’s 35-metre infinity pool! Super luxurious – loved it.
Return for a massive pampering session at The Spa. From the elegant Sala lounge areas to the serene villa treatment rooms, we love the Thai aesthetic charm of the place. Scenic outdoor bathing pools and couples-friendly suites makes it a romantic, intimate, haven for honeymooners and those celebrating their anniversaries. The extensive menu includes massages, facials, exfoliations and wraps which employ natural herbs, spices and aromatic oils.
We recommend going for the 90 minute Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage which employs deep long strokes into the muscle, using aroma oils. This is great after a Muay Thai session I tell you… God sent!
5. Hang out with the kids, at the Play Zone
The resort’s Play Zone offers endless options for fun for children from 4-12 years old.
Indoor and outdoor sports activities, arts and crafts facilities, and a dedicated child-safe play area.
The Play Zone can keep the children entertained for days.
Open daily from 9 am – 7 pm. See more of the Weekly fun activities here.

The butterfly and rose are crafted by you? OMG, u r so talented!
Not really. Mine didn’t look that much like a butterfly in the end. HAHAHA. But the teacher’s one was amazing! Even Cumi did a pretty rose.. I guess my hands are too clumsy:P
