When someone as talented as Chef David Caral calls, we drop most things to show up at his dinner table.
I mean, he’s the one person who doesn’t need to invite us twice, if you get what I’m saying. We’ve known him since the dawn of time. Originally from Barcelona, David has headed several kitchens in many prestigious restaurants around the world.
His extensive experience and talent has brought him to some of the world´s top culinary cities such as Madrid, London, Miami, New York City before making Kuala Lumpur his home. Having worked under Michelin star chefs like Sergi Arola, Nobu Matsuhisa and companys like Harrod´s etc, David created Mercat to replicate the fluid scene that Barcelona’s tapas bars. So from the bowels of Jalan Telawi, springs this second branch in Mt Kiara.
Fabulous, decadent Catalan tapas served alongside excellent wine or G&T’s are what I’m talking about. The food is authentic Spanish cuisine. Amongst the massive highlights include, the Iberico de Bellota, Fardos Iberico truffle cream apple compote & Salmorejo Cordobes.
And oh, how about taking the steak up a notch. The Iberico Abanico is a cut made in heaven… from the frontal part of the carcass, between the rib and the belly, this cut is nothing short of exquisite. It’s Iberico EVERYTHING over here. And if fish is more your thing, these boquerones fritos (fried anchovies) are one of the best you can find in KL. They are mini explosive flavours of yum in the mouth.

Never knew vegetables could be decadent. In winter, a stunning dish of crumbled butifarra negra, black sausage, with chick peas in the Catalan style now comes to KL. No words to describe.. go try.
