Hubba Hubba is no stranger to most KL-lites. So, it won’t be too difficult to find the new, Goa.

Goa by Hubba, located just off bustling Changkat Bukit Bintang, holds the promise of exotic Goan Inspired Cocktails and New Indian Cuisine.. Stepping inside, we immediately took to the vibe and the laid back ambience.

I was particularly eager to meet up with Chef Sapna Anand, whose talented hand was responsible for the menu at Goa. Dishes like Goan Beef Cutlet, Allepey Grilled Fish, Kashmiri Lamb Chops and much more pay tribute to simple yet delicious Goan street food. Chef Sapna’s signature style and eye for detail would definitely bring out the vibrancy of the many spices and herbs used in the food.

Karwar Soft Shell Crab ; Papadum with Peanut & Mung Dhal Salsa

Semolina crusted spiced soft shell crab – vibrant and exotic. So colorful and playful in presentation it took a good 15 minutes of photography before we ate it. Sensuous flavours of Kasmiri chili (renown for it’s color but lacking in spiciness), crumbly semolina and succulent crustacean were a pleasure to gobble. Look out for the mellow Mung Dhal Salsa too – loved the explosive fragrant coriander and the tasty Indian-flavored yellow lentils paired to perfection with salty, thin, crisp papadum.

Goan inspired shooters.. spicy!

Mutton Floss mantau

Delicious but way to salty.

Beef Vindaloo, Palak Paneer, Cranberry Rice

Beef cooked in traditional vindaloo spices – very spicy and a Goan favourite … Puréed spinach & cottage cheese – my favorite.. and Cranberry Rice.

A must order! One of the best Vindaloo’s and Palak Paneer ever.

Grilled Cauliflower with Smoked Sauce

Grilled cauliflower served with a mild smoked fennel tomato sauce and best paired with ghee rice had a rich, deep smoky flavour and an almost meaty texture. Who says vegetarian food has to taste bland.

Spiked Mango Lassi

And to complement this bold menu, Goa’s mixologists present cocktails resplendent of spices that will transport anyone, to hot and humid Goa. Local Goan fare like the rasam, raita, lassi have been given a Hubba twist and baptised with exotic names such as Spiked Mango Lassi, Masala Mantra, Ass Whupping Chai Masala. Familiar yet different, it’s a taste that’s hard to forget. The usual suspects are also available from the bar with the likes of beers, spirits and wines and champagnes at trade prices.

Rose Ice-cream

And we were told by Chef Sapna that this was her childhood favourite – homemade Ice Cream and my favourite one being the Rose Ice-cream. We were also served a peanut & Caramel that was equally good.

Great Goan food plus a smorgasbord of titillating Indian cuisine, this Goan adventure is definitely worth checking out, and even if not for the sensuous food, the creative cocktails then!
