Yung Kee.
A bit of an establishment in Pudu, where beef noodles are concerned. This place is packed to the rafters for breakfast till lunch time. So if you arrive in the late afternoon, chances are, they are all sold out.
The cook hails from Sandakan and he churns out a mean beef brisket. Tendons are what I come here for. Soft yet bouncy, they cause sensory mayhem as they melt in the mouth. Pick your poison – USA Striploin (RM18), Kobe (RM150), Brisket, Honeycomb and all parts of the cow, are offered at this establishment.
And when I say, churn out, I do mean by the gallon.
I mean just look at that pot .. this broth is lit.
They actually use a hose to shoot into the brisket and beef meat, which siphons out to the neighbouring compartment. That’s how much of broth they go through in a day. I swear, the mother (what’s left in the pot) from god knows which year, is probably what we have to thank, for the richness and depth of flavor of the soup. It kind of reminds me of balsamic vinegar in Italy, and how it’s made. Aging baby. The more years, the better.
Anyway, I’m not here to say how good the brisket is. I’m here to tell you, they’ve moved.
Just a few blocks away (but still on Jalan Kancil, Pudu) to a more comfortable environment.
We went to check it out..
Well what can we tell you. Somehow the broth was lacking in characteristic character.
It was just mediocre this time round.
Perhaps the mother stock needs time to thicken. And perhaps I liked the dingier surroundings better, of the original coffee shop.
Anyway, we will be back for more of course.
Coz we’re suckers for good brisket!
