Known most famously as being the traditional French restaurant in Bangsar, Rendez-Vous has now a lot to talk about. Their latest addition the the kitchen talent is young Chef Benjamin who trained in Toulouse.
We always love dining here because of Rendez-Vous’ superb wine list, guaranteed to keep any wine afficionado happy, and while service is prompt, we love the laid back vibe that is child friendly, encourages a nice mix of young arty types to multi-generational families. Yes indeed, we feel right at home here.
lychee mojitos to kick start the weekend.. Balanced and delicious.. these thirst quenchers really hit the spot!
Amuse bouche
We immediately notice the changes done to the menu. It is now a degustation style menu, ranging from as low as RM69++ to RM159++. And to these, you may add wine pairing for only RM145.
Amuse bouche – Lobster carpaccio and bisque.. smooth, creamy and well seasoned
Wine pairing is a must and with such and extensive winelist , we find ourselves spoilt for choice.
“Soupe de poissons” – RM 24
A delicious fish soup served in front of you, with Rouille sauce and confit vegetables tartare. Reminded us of a mediterranean version of the Mohinga!
“Thon confit” – RM 25
Candied tuna, cauliflower puree, refreshing cabbage and rouille sauce – succulent medalions of candied tuna.. mop up to sauces with the fish for a truly sublime experience.
“Oeuf Parfait et gnocchi” – RM 22
Half cooked eggs with Parisian style gnocchi and cheese – super rich and divinely decadent. No complaints here.
Chef Benjamin puts the finishing touches on our mains…
“Fillet de daurade en croute” – RM 62
Sea bream in crust, potato and truffle oil risotto , “bouillabaisse” sauce – unfortunately the fish was dry and overcooked. What a waste of a perfect specimen of sea bream!
“Poulet façon cocotte” – RM 36
Stuffed chicken, French mash potato and creamy mushroom – again the chicken was dry and rubbery. Luckily enough the creamy mushroom made up for it. We must say the plating of this was lovely though.
“Tarte au citron meringue” – RM 17
Lemon tart with hard and soft meringue. Meringue lovers would love this dish. Sweet and tart and it paired well with the extra dry prosecco.
“Paris Brest” – RM 20
Finally, these dainty bite-size morsels of Choux pastry stuffed with hazelnut custard ended the night on a rather sweet note.
Rendez-Vous proves time and again that it is a lovely French neighbourhood restaurant with affordable prices, a handsome wine list and now, an exciting degustation menu. One of our favourites for sure!
