If slaving over a hot stove and treating your loved one to a stay-at-home meal this Valentine’s Day is not really your thing (nor is it mine!) then I have good news for you.
Here are our Top 10 Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, where you can have a fabulous dinner cooked for you and your mate.. Er, no – No red face, damp hair and disheveled wife look for me.. no way! Of course there are 100’s of thousands of restaurants to choose from, but these are our personal favourites for Valentine’s Day.
1. Marble 8 @ Jalan Binjai KL
Yes, let’s face it. Getting dolled up is part of the Valentine’s charm for us girls, and there’s no better place to do it, than at Marble 8. An amazing menu, tantalizing presentation, set against the gleaming Petronas twin towers backdrop at dusk, is what I’m talking about. Say what you will about shellfish and chocolates, there’s no better aphrodisiac around these parts than a large portion of juicy red steak. And hey, the menu actually has all of the above, so it’s a home run.
a rather delectable amuse bouche starter.. the mini wagyu burger
Good things come in small packages.. such as this mini charcoal bun, wagyu beef patty, cheddar cheese, rocket leaves and mustard mayo, burger.
welcome drinks – cupid greetings
Made with a Vodka base, this cocktail of Raspberry Syrup, Rose Syrup, Lemon Juice, Egg White and served in a Champagne coupe with Cotton Candy dusted with Sansho pepper, was a sexy and romantic welcome tipple. It paired well with the succulent mini Wagyu burger. Don’t tiny morsels of decadence just whet your appetite for more of the same?
cold pasta with caviar and 24 carat gold leaves
Angel hair pasta tossed with truffle foam, topped with caviar, garnished with baby herbs and spinach oil..
Delicious, creamy and super unctuous. Laced with nature’s natural aphrodisiacs, the caviar & gold what’s there not to love. I liked how the explosive beads of briny sturgeon roe, met with the smooth texture of the pasta.
tomato based crab clear soup with Alaskan king crab meat, mushroom ravioli, gingko nuts
Ginkgo nuts are widely used in herbal medicine even to this day to stimulate, among other things, erotic desires. So sit back, relax, and let this delicious consomme get your blood circulation going and invigorate the body!
Pan fried Hokkaido Scallops with Dill oil – Hokkaido scallop, lavosh cracker, parsnip cream and dill oil, garnished with fresh dill..
Any super fresh scallops, lightly seared and served with dill oil, is a winner in my books. That’s all you need really. Why complicate and already perfect ensemble? Anyway, this dish is another great option for scallop aficionados – can’t ask for a better pair.
From here on, it is a choice of ONE of the following Main Courses…
grilled Fillet Mignon with steak fries and truffle mayonnaise
Here we go. My favourite course at Marble 8 is of course the steak. I prefer the dry aged ones, but this wet aged fillet mignon was pretty close to prefection. There’s no better aphrodisiac around these parts than a large portion of juicy red steak, and sharing it with a loved one as he ogles at your pale luminous complexion in contrast with the steak. Yes, no soggy tee, red-faced housewife look for me today. No siree!
36 hour slow cooked beef cheek with parsnip cream, served with butter baby carrot, green asparagus and beef jus
Gamy and well braised and swimming in too much sauce. Order the slow cooked beef cheek if it’s your thing. Otherwise, stick to the steaks.
52-degree boiled Boston Lobster tail with Saffron Risotto
I promised there would be a lobster option, and here it is. Fat, juicy and succulent, the oceanic flavours will bowl you over, but not before the heady aroma of saffron hits your nostrils. Now, then both the lobster and saffron are aphrodisiacs, if you didn’t already know, but am sure your partner will be noticing it soon!
roasted honey glazed chicken capon with roasted potatoes
This dish was too salty. I would not recommend it.
Vegetarian option of truffle linguine
If all vegetarian dishes tasted like this one, I’d convert to vegetarianism in an instant! It was that good. I mean, if Marble 8 is that generous with the truffle shavings, you really can’t go wrong ordering this pasta dish.
Pre- dessert – lavender flavoured cotton candy
Well all good things must come to an end. But not before candy floss!
chocolate sphere with hazelnut mousse served with fresh berries and vanilla gelato
Now the highlight of dessert was this chocolate sphere.
And the fact that the Aztecs may have been the first on record to draw a link between the cocoa bean and sexual desire, when the emperor Montezuma was said to consume the bean in copious amounts to fuel his romantic trysts, would mean that Marble 8 is definitely on the right track. Your dinner is going to end on the highest note possible, with this chocolate laced love ball!
Marble 8’s Valentine’s Menu is priced at RM999++ per couple, inclusive of the welcome drink.

Start with CHAMPAGNE Passione .. and the FORMAGGIO UMBRIACO Umbriaco champagne cheese (vegetarian)
This is as decadent as they come. For those who love cheese, the creamy texture ensconced in a crispy outer shell paired with any earthy beetroot sauce, is just to die for.
And don’t forget to ask the Mixologist for the drink of the night, especially on Valentine’s because specially crafted cocktails of Tequila and Cardamom are set to titillate the men.. while Gin, Peach syrup and Beetroot are all set to make the ladies blush with pleasure..
PIATTI DI MEZZO GAMBERI DELLA PUGLIA Thin sliced pink prawns and dill oil, tomato granite and caviar dust
Sashimi prawns that are succulent and sweet, contrasted against icy cold, tart tamato garnite, are just a heavenly blend. Caviar dust like fairy dust will cause your loved one to be starry-eyed and fall in love with you, all over again. Magic is in the air!
ANTIPASTO UOVO DI PARISI 62-degree boiled Parisi eggs with green asparagus, white asparagus foam and Truffle maple syrup
Keep the sweetness in your love affair alive, with the sweet lacings of this truffle maple syrup, heightened by the rich unctuousness of the egg yolk. Irresistibly good.
PASTA RAVIOLI DI ZUCCHINE Deep fried zucchini flower and goose liver ravioli
Having a heart of gold is important.. but in this case.. having a heart of foie gras will probably have your mate swooning in delight!
PAPPARDELLE AL TARTUFFO Papperdelle pasta with truffle and 32-month parmesan cheese (vegetarian)
Intoxicate her with the aroma of truffle.. there’s no better scent (well maybe second only to the scent of a woman!)
CARNE TAGLIATA Dry-aged Wagyu beef tenderloin and porcini mushrooms essence
Woo her like a pro, with this Wagyu number. The heady aroma of porcini mushrooms mingling with the best cut of steak, should be the lingering memory in her mind, long after this dinner is over.
PRE-DESSERT Lavender flavoured cotton candy and the DOLCE AMORE DI CIOCCOLATO Love in chocolate paradise Chocolate praline composition
Decadent, creamy and delectable… a real aphrodisiac clincher before the night is up.

3. Maison Francaise KL
Classic haute French food may feel old-hat in KL, with contemporary fusion cooking dominating the scene, but some of the best restaurants are still French ones— great old school cooking, where the cuisine of la France lives on.
Yes indeed, few can claim to be more romantic than the French.. and when Maison Francaise pulls out all the stops for their amazing Valentine’s Day menu, you know, you will be dazzled by the creations of their talented French chef.
Start off dinner with Gratinated Oyster with Champagne, followed by the decadent Foie Gras finger, cucumber and truffle jelly served with celery stick quenelle. Even in a city awash in unruly menus, Chef Thierry’s menu, stands out for it subtle flavor and finesse finishing. Watch your loved one’s eyes grow big with amazement as your first course is served.
Let the romance flow with the next dish of sautéed scallop, steamed bak choy and, beetroot foam. Chef and his team make a powerful case for keeping the high-end genre alive.
Love will conquer all with the next dish of sea bass fillet, green asparagus and Bernaise croquette … or perhaps a choice of lamb tenderloin gratinated with hazelnuts, fig strudel and sweet potatoes to fan the flames of passion.
And I certainly wouldn’t skip dessert… seal your vows with a Chocolate Heart, Sautéed Raspberry and Jerez vinegar.. and know that all is well with your Valentine sweetheart!

4. La Scala @ Jalan Mayang KL
Valentine’s at La Scala, is all about the ubiquitous Valentine’s symbol .. the heart of course!
Woo your loved one to several courses of delicious, hearty Italian dishes, fashioned in a symbolic way, that represents your undying love, for your special someone.
The traditional Italian meal takes on a spin as good old fashion favorites are made to look quirky and fun so that you and your loved one will have your own Italian-style feast in a most swanky, contemporary setting of La Scala restaurant.
The Degustation Menu at La Scala starts of with a complimentary Rossini Drink…
strawberries and champagne.. can’t think of a better marriage of flavours
Amuse your loved one, with a rather creative yet delicate amuse bouche – Zuppa di pomodori fredda con foglia d’oro, or Cold Tomato Soup with 24K golden leaves – the bowl is fashioned out of a tomato and the zuppa is served within. Basil leaves elevate the flavours and gold flakes seal the deal. An incredibly dainty & pretty prelude to dinner.
The starter of Cuore di Gamberi Gratinati or Lightly Crusted Prawn Carpaccio with Lemon dressing, had to be my favourite first course of the night. Springy, fresh prawns with a light crispy crust were tart and succulent, thanks to the lemon dressing. The sensations experienced with each mouthful were phenomenal.
Carpaccio di Manzo Fassona Piemontese or Italian Organic Beef Carpaccio with Rocket Salad, Parmesan Cheese and Truffle Dressing – deep and red with flavour, this is bound to set your woman’s heart on fire with desire.
Burrata con spuma di pomodori Pachino e Olio al Basilico, or Fresh Italian Burrata Cheese with Cherry Tomatoes Foam and Basil Olive Oil – Rich, creamy and bursting with deep flavours of olive oil.
Burrata is just so sinfully decadent, and this one had an infused heart of olive oil. Your mate will be primed for the main course after this number..
This next 3 courses have a recommended pairing with the Sassicaia, Le Difese, 2012..
The next dish of Risotto con Gamberi Asparagi e Zafferano or Carnaroli Italian Risotto with Prawns, Asparagus and Saffron was fabulously fragrant with deep musky saffron undertones.
The Cuori Rossi di Spinaci e Ricotta con Salsa di Noci or Home made Valentine Ravioli filled with Spinach, Ricotta Cheese & Walnut Sauce, was a sight for sore eyes. Lovely pink ravioli hearts had a green core of spinach and ricotta which was sublime.
The Walnut sauce was an inspired touch that added a creamy nuttiness and amplified the richness of this dish.
The Linguine All’Aragosta – Homemade Pasta with Fresh Lobster was super fresh with a deep oceanic aroma. Full points for presentation and flavour.
2. The 2 Main courses below have a recommended pairing with the Prunotto, Barbaresco, 2009..
First up was the Lingotto di Tonno fresco al Sesamo con Caponata; Fresh Tuna Loin In Crust of Sesame Seeds with mixed veggies Caponata – slightly overcooked – we would have preferred the tuna more rare and succulent to balance the dry sesame crust.
Then came the Filetto di Manzo con Crema di Funghi e Patate Arrosto; Organic Australian Tenderloin with Porcini Mushrooms and Corvoisier Cognac Sauce – a nice medium rare. The highlight of this dish was the Porcini Mushrooms and Corvoisier Cognac Sauce.. it almost tasted like salted caramel.. simply divine!
3. Dessert’s recommended Pairing was with the Allegrini Corte Giara, Amarone della Valpolicella, 2010
A choice of Pera al forno; Oven Baked Baby Pear In Red Wine or the Millefoglie al Cioccolato e Lamponi; Chocolate Mille Feuille with Fresh Raspberries to seal dinner and your romantic dining experience at La Scala.
Chocolate Mille Feuille with Fresh Raspberries
Coffee or Tea / homemade Limoncello or Chocolate Liquor
The Valentine’s menu at La Scala is pretty affordable – Your choice of 4 Course 269++ per person; or 399++ with wine pairing per person. Definitely worth checking out their hearts on fire theme!
