Buka Puasa at Kitchen Art Brasserie, Empire Hotel Subang

What do I like best about Ramadan? Well, breaking fast with my Muslim friends of course. Though I don’t fast during Ramadan, I can still indulge in the evening dinner and one great place to buka puasa is at Kitchen Art Brasserie, in Empire Hotel, Subang.

The spread at Kitchen Art Brasserie is not too huge, but it has all my favourites. A nicely controlled quality feasting is what I am talking about. They serve around 50 delicious Malaysian dishes cooked the old fashioned Malaysian way.

I make a bee’s line for the 12 hawker stalls that are dishing out different types of Malaysian all time favorites such as Roast Lamb, Ikan Bakar, Beef and Chicken Satay, Murtabak, Roti Canai, Claypot Yee Mee, Lok Lok, Ice Kacang, Cendol and lots more.

The must try items include the Rendang Udang Galah, a specialty of Chef Fazli Baharudin cooking, and it is available daily during this period. This dish is prepared using Giant Fresh Water Prawns and shallots, ginger, lemongrass, fresh turmeric, turmeric leaves, dried chilli, coconut milk, cinnamon stick, cardoman, star anis, cloves and grated coconut. The cooking process takes one and a half hours. My other favourite is the Sup Gear Box aka. Sup Ekor. A massive hunk of bone with tender, fall off the bone, lamb meat, lamb cartilage and lamb marrow to suck the life out of!

OK, maybe I lied. Those are not my only favourites.

I have even more favourites such as the Ayam Kaleo Padang, Sotong Masak Menado, Rendang Bukit Tinggi, Kambing Mekuah, Burung Puyuh Balado (Quail), Ayam Bakar Bali and Ekor Lembu Masak Ketumbar! The Quails are just to die for. What’s the point of eating chicken or any other fowl, when you can eat quail. It’s like God packed all the good stuff into the quail’s tiny body, just so it could be that tasty! For dessert, those with a sweet tooth would appreciate the huge spread of Malay kuih, Tapai Pulut, Pandan Sago Gula Melaka, pastries and cakes.

Empire Hotel is the newest hotel in the Subang Jaya area and its F&B is pretty outstanding. I love their Chinese restaurant, Di Wei, as well as the International dining menu at Kitchen Art Brasserie. If you have not tried their cuisine, it’s time to do so, this Ramadan season.
