Sparkalite Sunday Brunch @ InterContinental

Champagne and Brunches go hand in hand, and the latest, newest place to have brunch on a Sunday as you enjoy, not one, nor two.. but a choice of three sparkling wines, would be at Serena Brasserie, at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

the buzz word is .. Sparkalite!

“Sparkalite”, the theme of its new Sunday brunch, features some fantastic culinary creations of Executive Chef, Darell O’Neill. There is a great selection of Australian cuisine to choose from – ranging from heavy BBQ red meats, to the hearty meat pies and finally famous Australian desserts such as the Rocky Road. The Rocky Road incidentally was invented in Australia in 1853 as a way of selling confectionery spoiled by the long journey from Europe, and here at InterContinental they make it so scrumptious you won’t be able to get enough!

Sparkalite also features seven live action stations as well as a spread of fresh seafood, sushi, sashimi, an indoor carving station, hot and cold dishes right from steaks to grills to sandwiches and ending off with desserts.

The choice of bubbly at Sparkalite is amazing – Sparkling Wines such as an Australian Seppelt Stony Peak Brut NV, an Italian Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore and a French Arthur Metz Cremant D’Alsace Brut will be on free flow throughout the brunch. There are also interesting DIY colorful cocktails to choose from but if bubbles are not what you are looking for, have instead some Australian whites or reds or even beer to go with your meal. Try your hand at making your own Mimosa, Kir Royal or Bellini with mixers and get as creative as you like with your bubbles!

The Live Action Stations include Bruce’s Australian Barbeque – grilled fresh to order. And you can pick from Sirloin, Lamb Chops, Chicken or Beef Sausages, Chicken, Tiger Prawns, Marinated Tuna Steaks, Butter Fish or Slipper Lobster. Alternatively you could try your hand at building your Own Burgers. Check out the Mini Angus Beef Sliders and Mini Chicken Satay Sliders for some cool action station fun.

building your own burger is fun! Good job they are small so you still have room for the other yummies

And this one was a big hit with the little ones – Create your Own Egg Buddy. Employing Soft Bread Rolls, you could add ingredients such as Turkey Bacon, French Fries, Grated Cheddar Cheese, Spring Onion, Tomato Sauce, BBQ Sauce or Hollandaise Sauce to your fried egg.. hence producing the egg buddy. It tastes as delicious as it looks!

The kids LOVE this station as much as the adults

And if the heat at the live stations outside gets too much, try traipsing inside to the roast station. This has got to be my all time favourite station – traditional roasts are a must! Marinated Roasted Whole Rib with traditional trimmings such as Yorkshire Pudding, Roasted Vegetables such as Pumpkin, Carrots and Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts drenched in brown sauce are just the best thing on earth!

P9096580

traditional roast.. I am a sucker for good Yorkshire pudding!

P9096687

I love the way the Yorkshire pudding soaks up all the sauce. Give it a good drenching!

P9096618

Many glasses along.. we are still eating!

P9096624

there’s a Peking duck station

P9096578

there’s a Chef station.. kidding! There’s Chef Darell O’Neill available at the brunch for a chat

P9096657

mini meat pies.. some found these a little strange served with ketchup, but I loved it.. !

P9098805

what are those round blobs of white?

P9098819

why poached eggs of course! add half of an English muffin, topped with ham or bacon, poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce.. and you have.. the Eggs Benedict!

Don’t forget to check out, at the extreme corner inside, the Uncle Laksa Station. Choose from Curry Laksa, Sarawak Laksa, Penang Laksa, Johor Laksa or Asam Laksa, to take a break from the Western Cuisine if you like.

P9096575

And for the healthy folk, the Salad bar offers a Crab and Apple Salad with Shaved Fennel, Asparagus, and a Citrus Dressing, a Balmain Bug and Orange Salad with Fine Beans, Peppers, Kaffir Lime and Olive Oil, a Spiced Char-grilled Lamb Salad with Cucumber, Carrot, White Radish, Mint and Coriander or finally a hearty Potato and Spring Onion Salad Seeded Mustard Aioli.

P9096533

And if you have young ones with you, fear not.. a space within the brasserie has been converted into a Kids’ Corner (games, Pop corn stations or Candy Stations and painting stations) and the little ones can eat right by their parents, but in their own special play area. Watch them make Lamingtons with the InterCon Chefs for kicks – who knows.. there might be many little chefs in the making!

And finally, no brunch is complete without dessert. The huge selection of desserts that I was telling you about includes Lamingtons, Rocky Road, Mini Pavlovas, Mini Fruit Trifles, Banana and Caramel Sticky Pudding and the super addictive Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

P9096551

the decadent dessert bar.. proceed with caution.. dessert that could possibly kill you with pleasure!

P9096564

the rocky road that rocked my socks off!

P9096691

The main ingredients in traditional Australian Rocky Road are heart stoppingly delectable! They are the marshmallow, milk chocolate (sometimes dark or white chocolate is used), Jelly (a gelatin preparation or often Jell-O in U.S. English), desiccated coconut, glace cherries, peanuts, Turkish delight (oh yumz.. my fav! ) and last but not least.. strawberry sauce. How can you say no to that?
