I recently had some rather exciting Turkish ice-cream, called Mado Ice Cream on my birthday.. it was divine. It’s harder than conventional ice-cream but super creamy and the best part is.. it hardly melts, even in the heat! So the story goes that the Turkish children used to come from villages far and wide, and making an ice-cream that would not melt was the idea- so that they could still eat it when they got home. The Mado stall which can be found on Bukit Bintang Road, comes from a 300 year Maraş region Ice Cream making heritage.

The goats milk for this ice-cream is special too because, it comes from the animals which are fed organically grown thyme, milk vetch, and orchid flowers, thus removing any goat smell in the milk. The ice cream is also made using salep instead of gelatin, so the product is halal. This salep is obtained from Mado’s own farms which is grown on the hillsides of Ahirdagi (Ahir Mountains).

Mado itself has 250 branches all over the world. The brand gets its name from two words Maraş – the former name of the city where the firm is originated, and Dondurma – the Turkish name used for ice-cream.. Say it all together now.. Mado!

This super dense ice cream does not come cheap though.. it’s RM15 bucks for a small pot like this. But you know, since it hardly melts, you can eat it slowly and enjoy every moment of it!
