Wantan Mee Stall, Koon Kee, has seen better days…
Located right smack in the middle of the busy hub of Petaling Street’s Chinatown, this coffee shop has been around for more than 60 years. My mum remembers eating here when she was a kid ! Koon Kee is located where the 2 roads intersect, opposite the Hong Leong Bank.
( i forgot to charge my camera, so, forgive the hazy photos taken fm my mobile phone.. eek!)
Whiles the workers here are a little stroppy (as with most family coffee shop businesses, where irritations are not hidden and arguing is the norm), the food is served relatively fast. Maybe it’s the waning clientele…?
Anyway, whilst not the best Charsiew Wantan Mee in KL/PJ, the food is relatively low in MSG and less greasy than most wantan mee shops you get around town.
The Char siew is sweet, but not as good as the one in Pudu. (please refer to previous blog). All in all, a large plate of charsiew, 1 wantan noodle and 2 drinks sets you back RM18.50. Not that cheap eh for coffee shop food?
Most people who patron this place are hungry bargain shoppers who want a place to rest their feet, while they fill their stomachs.
