Lucky Bo, located on Jln Bangkung, is such a cute and unforgettable name. Kind of like the lovely dog that the owner named it after.
Located next to Opus Bistro, Lucky Bo serves a East meets West variety of cuisine, and it runs as a community cafe, supporting local industries, so a wide array of stuff from various independent “suppliers” are for sale as well, such as locally brewed booze, homebaked dog food, a range of home made jams, sauces and cakes from several local home industries.
Tuaktails; Roasted Spanish Red Peppers Plate RM18.00 & Duck Jamon & Rocket Salad RM 36.00
Tuaktails are cocktails made from Tuak, a local fermented drink that is made from rice, coconut or sugar cane. We had the Tuak Colada, which was delicious – here you see it with a little glass of pure tuak. We also had starters of Duck Jamon which was unusual but a rather nice substitute for pig.
Of course the piece de resistance here is the WAGyu (pronounced WAG – YOU) promotion, which really is good value for money whereby a 300gm Ribeye, marble 5 goes for RM125.
The Tomahawk is also a must order – beautifully charred on the outside by the skilled usage of the Josper Oven, but medium rare on the inside. The price is half that of hotels, going at RM400 for a 1.2-1.3kg slab. The one we had was around 1.6kg, and really to die for. The marbling and rendered animal fat was just nuts.
Totally on point for red blooded steak eaters.
The Leng Chai Fish Hotpot which comes with Venus clams, prawns, fish balls, tofu, yam, quail eggs, bee hoon, fresh vegetables is another must order. It’s just as hearty as the steak, but in a different way. It costs for 2 persons, RM118.00, and for 4 persons RM188.00. The thick, rich gravy is just insane.
Take away the heat by finishing off the night with Forty Licks ice cream.
Cakes are also a must have here. We loved the Pandan Gula Melaka Cheesecake, but the Puan Sri cake, an incredibly dense and rich cappuccino cheese cake fell short of expectation, hence I will only feature the cake that was “worthy” on this blog 😛
Other fun drinks to order here include the shaken not stirred super kao (concentrated) milo ice, the Lucky Duck tea and the Tuak Sunrise…!
What a night and what a feast. You must check out Lucky Bo, asap.. you simply must!
