So we finally made it to Midvalley to check out Tiffin by Chef Korn.
Grilled Pork Neck (RM23.80) Grilled marinated pork neck served with homemade sauce and steamed glutinous rice
This trip was long overdue, but we were so busy with travels we completely forgot to swing by. Anyway, we were definitely glad that we finally did, as the food was terrific and as was the service.
Hidden away on the third floor of Midvalley’s North court (above Food Junction), it’s not the easiest of restaurants to find, but at least the hunt will be worth it. And when it first opened, this place was the brainchild of Chef Korn who wanted to share his much cherished family recipes that evoke memories of his childhood. The restaurant today, is a warm and cozy casual dining space that offers a variety of classic Thai village style food that’s tasty and well made, with high quality ingredients.
Great balls of fire! These balls are a must order! Super spicy and bursting with flavour ….
Whether you’re tucking into a plate of stewed pork knuckle rice, or slurp up a hot bowl of beef noodles, you should wash it all down with a tall cool glass of Tom Yum Mojito. Start with the Fire Balls (RM 17.80) – Deep fried minced pork salad with ground roasted rice, ground roasted dried chili, spring onion, coriander and shallot served together with daily fresh vegetables – 5 pieces / serving – super spicy!
Tom Yum Mojito (RM9.80) – a nice refreshing alternative to beer which they serve here too, incidentally
When they told us they had reduced the heat in this recipe, I was surprised – it was still cathartic!
Mango Salad (RM18.80) Green Mango with a spicy dressing sauce and condiments – very sour, but not that spicy
“food served in a tiffin always tastes better!”
Set Menus – All Set Menus are served with Chef Korn’s daily appetizers and a fresh Thai-based salad Tiffin’s Style Suki-Yaki (RM23.80) Glass noodles with assorted seafood, pork and vegetables in a yummy homemade suki-yaki sauce
Set Menu – Beef Ball Noodles(RM25.80) Tender shin meat, poach beef, beef balls and delectable broth.. Choice of: Thai Rice Noodles or Egg Noodles
Love this old favourite from Chef Korn’s kitchen – can’t go wrong with beef ball noodles!
Tom Yam Gung – add your own heat and sour factor. Good job they don’t add it for you, as it might probably be too hot
Tiffin Style Dining – Kangkung, Stewed Pork Knuckle, Green Curry Chicken and Pork Stew
The Stewed Pork Knuckle (RM19.80) is tender, unforgettable and topped with homemade preserved vegetable, kailan and egg. Also the most delicious Green Curry (Pork 19.80) Chef’s version of green curry. Served with Thai sausage and salted egg.
Homemade Ice-cream – super addictive and a nice way to cool down from the heat!
All in all, some rather awesome Thai food, that does not need to put a hole in your wallet. Definitely seek this place out for lunch or dinner, if you are in MidValley!
