1. Colonial Cafe @ The Majestic Hotel

I’ve always love the Colonial Cafe for that planters of Malaya ambiance.

And if delicious classical cuisine from the colonial era is your thing, then this is the place for you for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Plush red leather chairs, crisply starched white tablecloths, a jazz quartet and timber paneling reinforce the colonial feel.. and makes things just oh so.. majestic.

And of course the Majestic Hotel celebrates the season, the majestic way. We highly recommend starting off with welcome drinks of Prosecco. Then moving along to the Salmon, Blue Mussel and Scallop starter as well as Butternut Squash soup. For the mains do not miss the Trios King – turkey breast, sausage in a blanket, served with potatoes, minted mushy pea and red wine gravy.

The sausages are to die for, and we really loved the moist, flavourful turkey – unlike some places that just cook it to death, and you end up feeling like your chewing on straw!

2. Nobu

Nobu KL’s Malaysian head chef, Philip Leong pulls out all the stops, come New Year’s Eve, with his 7 course Omakase menu, priced at RM750++, with a glass of champagne. And of course, being situated on the 56th floor of the Menara Petronas 3, has its perks – it’s like having front row seats to KL city’s most stunning, gleaming skyline.

Begin with the Zensai Moriawase – Toro Tartar, Kampachi Jalapeno, White fish Tiradito and new style salmon – all vibrant and vivid and you will already notice the Peruvian & South American influences right here. Next comes the assorted sushi- Chu-toro, Kampachi, Kinmedai and Aji. Of these, the prawn was the most awesome – stuffed with flavouring and roe and deep-fried, the entire head is so crispy it can be eaten like that. Chu-toro is also my favourite cut – not as fatty as the O-toro, and the perfect marbling makes it just melt on the palate.

This should be followed by the Buri & beetroot Salad with Dry Miso but the highlight for me, was the Kobe Beef with Goma sauce, served with caramalized chestnuts and pickled beetroot. Faultlessly good.

A cold noodle dish of Inaniwa clear Lobster Dashi, and a dessert of Shisho & Pistachio Entremet completed the course. This seven course dinner menu is priced at RM750++ and they will run in two sessions on New Year’s eve Dinner – best book early to avoid disappointment!
