I think the best thing about Makan Kitchen, is getting to watch the Chefs in action. And boy, do they have many!
With more than 80 local dishes on the dinner buffet menu, it’s no wonder that there are several Chefs at the live action stations, making the food come alive. I feel pretty mesmerized by the way they churn out dish after dish. The hissing of the woks never stop, and now, with 6 new local signature dishes called “A Taste of Malaysia “, added to their existing repertoire, there’s an even better reason to visit Makan Kitchen.
DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s “A Taste of Malaysia” has already been in full swing, since May 1, 2014. In addition to a wide array of more than eighty local dishes featured in the restaurant’s dinner buffet menu, six exciting new dishes reflecting a true showcase of Malaysian dining such as the Alaskan King Crab Otak Otak, Long Rib Beef Rendang, Braised Spicy Venison Ribs, Pansoh Manok, Peking Duck Roll and Tandoori Prawns are currently being featured on the menu. It is a feast for the senses as the dishes are served a la minute, freshly prepared.. with the flamboyant Chefs, serving the dishes to you at your table. It truly is entertaining!
The “A Taste of Malaysia” experience is available for daily dinners only at RM108 per person. Lunch at Makan Kitchen is available at RM68 per person, Monday to Friday. On weekends, Makan Kitchen serves the Malaysian High Tea with over 60 classic favourites at RM62 per person on Saturday and RM68 per person on Sunday. All prices are subject to service charge and government tax.
A Chef putting the finishing touches on the Long Rib Beef Rendang
Buttery, cartilaginous, melt off the bone rendang ribs are to die for!
Peking duck.. yum yum!
incredibly crispy skin and succulent duck meat.. I prefer mine without the pancake
Executive Chef Adam Watson putting the finishing touches on some Satay
Alongside the special 6 signature dishes, there are still the other Kitchens to choose from, i.e. the Peranakan Kitchen/Chinese, the Malay Kitchen and the Indian Kitchen.
Pansoh Manok
One of the coolest dishes on the 6 Signature Dishes list, and a must try, is the Pansoh Manok. It comes from the Iban tribe of Malaysia, and is served in a bamboo. Once the Chef serves it at the table, chunks of chicken, along with herbs and spices such as ginger, lemongrass & turmeric flowers will tumble out of the bamboo. This natural way of cooking produces an amazingly tender chicken with fragrant gravy smell of ginger, lemongrass and bamboo.
Alaskan King Crab Otak Otak
Super decadent and even more fragrant than your regular Otak Otak thanks to the “Rolls Royce” of Crabs!
Not sure who is more photogenic.. the prawns or the Chef!
Tandoori Prawns.. to spice things up nicely
Another one of my favourite dishes.. the Braised Spicy Venison Ribs..
You can tell from the “wok-hei”(heat from the wok) that it’s going to be good.
if you like peppercorns, you will love this dish
Beware of the peppercorn slow burn… I’m pretty addicted to it!
Amazing, authentic Malaysian dishes coming your way these few months, and with lots of skilled Chefs putting on a fine culinary show – definitely a great reason to visit Makan Kitchen.

Was there on Sunday, and pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Ambiance also superb!!
Will go again soon.
Hi Lin! Happy you liked it.. that means our recommendation is spot on! 😀
Pansoh manok! I love that dish! 🙂
Every Gawai back home, they’ll sell this and I’ll get some. They cook it with chicken, pork or fish in Sibu, never had beef or lamb for reasons unknown to me. They use tuak (rice wine) to make it very fragrant too, but I’ll love this halal version as well! I haven’t had it for the longest time! 😀
Really. wow! Lucky you Huai Bin.. wish I had this dish sooner.. it’s so delicious! LOVE tuak rice.. must be so incredibly intoxicatingly good! Must try that version one day!
Love your photos Umei!
Thank u Ken… you are so kind!
Alaskan King Crab Otak Otak is indeed a refreshing idea; love that creativity and without a doubt, as you say…it’s the King of all kings eh? Lol, that’s cheeky, comparing the chef to the prawns…hahaha, you had me laughing so much…but I am wondering if the chef would be amused when he learns he is compared to…prawns???!! 😛
Great post, and a lovely offering by Doubletree Hilton…a good reason to check them out!
Huh? He ain’t compared to the prawns. He’s stealing the show from the prawns. Don’t you get it ? LOL 😛
Um, WOW! Everything about this screams DELICIOUS! x
It does, doesn’t it! 😀
Everything looks so good here I don’t know is it the food or your photography!
LOL .. both! 😀
I can certainly use some king crab otak otak now!
Me too!
Wow! I can’t believe that 80 signature dishes are on offer. 80!
Malaysian food sounds delightful. Do you know, I don’t think I’ve actually had purely Malaysian food as restaurants in Berlin either favour Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean & Asian “fusion?”
I absolutely think the rendang ribs look and surely tastes, delightful! Thanks for sharing ciki!
Well you need to get your butt down to KL ASAP, so I can feed you some really good Malaysian food woman! 😀
