Pisco Bar, Mid week with Miserable Man

Last wednesday we headed to Pisco Bar, to catch Miserable Man , and he was brilliant!

Here’s what he sounds like..

There were also some creative, oh so delectable, tapas (Chef Miguel Hokama’s trademark cooking) and Pisco Sours to kick back with, and enjoy the music.

If this sort of scene is your thing, you many want to check out Pisco Bar’s FB page for upcoming events.

yummy bite size flamenquin

The Pisco Bar has recently added a nice repertoire of Spanish dishes to its menu. The flamenquin consists of pieces of pork loin wrapped with slices of turkey, ham, cheese, jamon serrano, coated with breadcrumbs and egg and then deep-fried. The ones at Pisco bar are serve with mayonnaise and a spicy sauce.

It’s a terrific dish typical of the cuisine of Cordoba (Spain), and goes down really well with an icy cold beer. This dish was apparently created during the 1950s in a restaurant in the city of Andujar. It owes its name, “little Fleming”, to its golden color, that resembled the blond hair of the Flemings who came to Spain accompanying the Emperor Charles V!

ceviche and pisto pisco

The ceviche at Pisco Bar is incontestably the best ceviche in town (in my humble opinion). The pisto pisco was new to us – this is the Spanish version of Ratatouille. It is made of tomatoes, onions, eggplant or courgettes, green and red peppers and olive oil. It is similar to ratatouille and is usually served warm on grilled bread with a nice quails egg on top. The egg yolk was nice and runny, just the way I like it.

lovely quails yolk

runny yolks are the best! I could eat a dozen of these no problem!

gazpacho

There are many modern variations of gazpacho these days, often in different colors and omitting the tomatoes and bread in favor of avocados or cucumbers but I like the original sort. The one served at Pisco bar is a tomato-based, vegetable soup, and refreshingly cold. Great for this muggy season we have been having lately.

Located strategically on Jalan Mesui, just 2 streets away, parallel to the noisier Changkat Bukit Bintang section, the Pisco Bar caters to a cool, trendy clientele and residents in the area. From fancy serviced apartments and regal hotels to the basic flats and dirty back-lanes that hold a unique mix of yuppie expats, international travelers as well local folks, this area provides any visitor with an interesting feel of KL culture, not to mention a variety of cuisine to feast on. And now at Pisco Bar, alongside great food, there is terrific entertainment as well. We cannot ask for more!
