Bazaar Feast & Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside, Putrajaya

Iftar, refers to the evening meal, specifically the meal that breaks the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan. Iftar during Ramadan is often conducted as a community, with Muslims gathering to break their fast together. The time for Iftar is approximately 10 – 15 minutes after sunset. It is considered the best practice, to offer ‘Maghrib Namaz/salat‘ and then break one’s fast, preferably with dates and some syrup water.

One of the highlights of Ramadan, is the Muslim ummah coming alive at sunset, to eat together to break their fast in groups. This practice is yet another blessing in this holy month. It is common for people to eat Iftar in large groups, making the fast breaking into a community party. This is also a time for action and good deeds, and to bring the poor and the fasting needy to the table to celebrate the day’s fasting. It is more like a social affair where the spirit of community and caring for each other is well and alive.

One of my close Muslim friends told me that it is right to, hasten to break the fast. What this means is that one should avoid a situation where the fast will drag into the night. It is advised to break fast immediately at sunset. One should be conscious of their fast just as they are of their prayers. One does not have to wait for the stars to come out before breaking the fast.
