Korean Pleasures @ Intercontinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

If you are a fan of Korean cuisine, then you will love the promotion that I tried earlier this week at Intercontinental Hotel. The hotel has flown in not one, not two, but THREE amazing Korean chefs to cook up some delicious Korean fare, and those who venture down to KL will indeed be rewarded. Headed by Master Chef Kim Jae Sun from Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas and InterContinental Seoul Coex, the chefs will prepare the good old Korean favourites such as the Bibimbap, Daehajjim Steamed King Prawns, and Eomandu Steamed Fish Fillet Dumplings.

Appetizers that will be featured include big time favourite such as the Sundubu-jjigae – Clams and Bean curd Soup; Samgaetang – Ginseng Chicken Soup; Deenjang-jjigae – Bean Paste Soup and Oi-sobagi – Stuffed Cucumber Kimchi. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as the mains were equally awesome as well – sample Yukjoe – Korean Beef Tartare; Japchae – Stir Fried Potato Noodles with Fresh Vegetables; Haemul-pajeon – Green Onion and Seafood Pancake; Saengseon-jeon – Pan Fried Fish Fillet; Nakji-bokkeum – Stir Fried Baby Octopus and for meat lovers, Seo-galbigui – Marinated Grilled Beef Ribs. Some of the fab Korean tipples that were served were the Sujeonggwa – Cinnamon Punch, Sikhye – Rice Punch and the Makgeolli. At first I though that the Makgeolli tasted incredibly familar like Toddy.. then as I drank more of the rice wine, I realized that it wasn’t actually Toddy, but it tasted exactly like Tuak!

Apart from great Korean fare, I also noticed that Intercontinental hotel has recently undergone a facelift. I haven’t stepped into the lobby of intercontinental hotel (the old Nikko) for ages, and when I did, it was like I was in a different place altogether. They now have a brand new lobby and they have renovated the award-winning Tatsu Japanese Cuisine as well.
