Movie Review – Cars 2

The Plot: Star race car Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in “Cars 2” when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car.

John Lasseter returns to the driver’s seat to direct this follow-up to his 2006 Golden Globe®-winning “Cars.” “Cars 2” is co-directed by Brad Lewis, producer of the Oscar®-winning film “Ratatouille,” and produced by visual effects industry veteran Denise Ream (associate producer, “Up”; visual effects executive producer, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”). The film hits the track on August 25th, 2011, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D in select theaters.

What we thought about the movie:

We’ve got to hand it to the people at Pixar. These guys really know how to do a good sequel.  Already they’ve produced “Toy Story 3” , one of the best films of recent years, and now comes the action packed, high octane spy caper,“Cars 2” . Cars 2 kind of picks up where its predecessor left off, with champion race car Lightning McQueen coming home to Radiator Springs and his best friend Mater after another successful tour. Then, not too long into this vacation  from racing, Italian racing car Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) goads Lightning into participating in yet another newly announced championship organised by environmentalist Miles Axlerod (Eddie Izzard), who will use the grand prix to showcase his state-of-the-art biofuel, Allinol. This story has an eco-friendly theme, promoting a clean fuel alternative to gasoline.

As the story unfolds, oil company spies and counterspies infiltrate the races, and that’s when viewers will feel like they are watching a “007” movie. Michael Caine voices a British spy called Finn McMissile, anAston Martin, and Emily Mortimer is his accomplice Holley Shiftwell. It’s classic spy-comedy stuff, with Mater as the bumbling idiot, mistaken for an undercover genius and in the meantime, Mater played by Larry the Cable Guy tones things up and makes the plot and jokes truly funny.

We loved the fact that the computer graphics were super realistic and this was one 3D flick that did not have us straining to see the movie (not too dark) – the 3D glasses at GSC 1utama (Disney Digital 3D) are also really comfortable (soft rubber frames that don’t hurt your ears and fit round the back of the head) and much better than the previous ones we have used before. We loved the immaculate precision of the background work as well as the detail of the cars – and of course, any film that is set against the gorgeous backdrop of Porto Corsa, Italy, wacky Tokyo and charming London, is sure to knock your socks off with its visuals.

This show is a must watch!

Love CARS in totality! So sad that Malaysia is showing a month later after USA! Pirated copies are already circulating around Pasar Malam, Shopping Malls and of course online torrent sites as well.

I wish that the movie house here in Malaysia bring in Pixar movies on time and not a month later!

Nevertheless, I am going to watch it on the big screen. I can’t wait for the 1080p version to be out on Blu-Ray!

    Cheers
