Say the word Mediterranean and what enters your mind? I don’t know about you but for me, “a holiday”, “divine climate”, “gorgeous people”, “fresh fruits & vegetables” , ” bread” , “nuts and beans” and finally “olive oil” are words that come to my mind. Yes, great food is definitely top on that list of things conjured up by the term Mediterranean, as well as a nice vacation.

Olive oil is sometimes called, the “good fats”

Another thing I found as a student back packing around Europe was that apart from enjoying the lovely Mediterranean weather and gorging on the fantastic “oily” food, I hardly put on weight.  Even from a scientific angle, the way these gorgeous honey-skinned people ate really fascinated me. What impressed me even more was that although almost half of the calories in their diet come from fat, the incidence of heart disease and cancer in the Mediterranean is lower than in the US of A.

Recently, new studies from the Greek island of Crete have shown new information regarding lower incidents of allergies and asthma in children. Yes, being trained as a Pharmacist and all, this sort of information really intrigues me.

If you think about it, this makes sense because the olive oil is the primary source of fat, which is a monounsaturated fat (sometimes called the “good fats”) and does not raise blood cholesterol in the same way that saturated fats and trans fats do.

Wine which is a staple in Mediterranean countries contains antioxidants and is also good for the heart, so long as it is drunk in moderation.  So, no wonder many people who come from that region have lower heart disease, gorgeous skin and hair and if you see them on the beach, they tan well too. Damn unfair.

I really want to live in the Mediterranean! Anyway, since I cannot live there, I might as well eat Mediterranean more often as the food is good for me. Maybe I will bump to a good looking, olive skinned, hunk or two at the restaurant.

Le Midi has a good selection of Mediterranean cuisine, and is situated in a high and lofty, sunny corner of Bangsar Shopping center. It has the view of the Bangsar housing area as well as a lot of green trees and I really love the wide expanse of nothing other than glass that lets in so much natural light, one tends to feel like a fish in a fish bowl. If you wore a bikini, you could easily sunbath during lunch at one of their window tables.. with so much olive oil in the diet, you might even begin to tan well;)
