Sunday Roast Lunch at the Ritz

PB280749

I’ve always wanted to say that.

When someone asks, where are you having lunch? It’s super chic to reply “At the Ritz.”

Just recently, Cumi & Ciki were invited to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, downtown, at the swanky Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur. Sunday Roast lunches are by far my favourite. Every hot, languid afternoon should be spent this way if you ask me, chilling out to the the gentle rhythms of a three piece jazz band as you dine on aged Black Angus prime rib, traditional Yorkshire pudding, stewed cabbage, roasted noisette and drizzled with bone marrow jus. What a life!

What struck us most about this particular Sunday Roast Lunch was the sprawling selection of fine foods from around the world- raclette and giant Swiss cheeses, whole salmons, delicately made sushi, tender sashimi and aromatic German sausage. I looked at Cumi. He looked at me. We exchanged unspoken words of “Thank God we ran 10K yesterday!”

For a small and cosy set up, the Ritz Carlton’s dining area looks deceptively tiny compared to sprawling buffets in other hotels but make no mistake, the selection of fine foods was actually pretty extensive. As we walked around strategizing on what to go for first,  visions of oysters, king prawns, stuffed loaves, terrines, frois gras assaulted our senses. For the healthy diner, a luscious salad bar for you to make your own salad, with a range of ingredients, leaves and vinaigrettes.

My mains of aged Angus Black Steak, medium rare – talk about cooked to perfection!

After many rounds of the buffet and then the amazing, succulent, roast Angus Black Steak for the mains, I was almost there. However, I can never say no to desserts (who can?).  So, if you have the capacity to still tuck in, well done because what lies before you is a selection of hundreds of multi-coloured macaroons, miniature strawberry tarts, tiramisu, truffles and chocolates – hazelnut, praline, white, dark and what have you.. also a gushing chocolate fountain – oh wow.. the mind boggles. If that does not rock your sugary boat then there is also a variety of different bonbons, toffees and treats to chose from. I feel like a kid in a candy store. Literally. Those with a sweet-tooth can seriously do some damage here.
