Now, I for one, never argue with my someone as smart as mom. Agree?

il Lido. Think private club. Think modern deco. Think expensive and chic.

Located on the 1st floor, just off Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, il Lido is the KL offshoot of the famous Italian restaurant in Singapore’s Sentosa Golf Club started by restaurateur Beppe de Vito. As you step out of the lift to the first floor you will notice dark, posh surroundings where people only talk in controlled whispers. That is, till we arrived.

Il Lido2

We were being hosted by Lyla, their bubbly sales and marketing manager. Lyla is  Singaporean and has worked with il Lido before and as such, knew a lot about the business. I think that bottom left picture of Lyla show’s FBB and Jon trying to give their hearts to her, because she is so sweet.

“Take-a-my-heart-ah ! ”

Some people might find the dim lighting and simple, stark decor a little too clinical.. too impersonal. I like it as long as the seats are comfortable and there is enough light to take my photo shots! (Thanks Marian for organizing brighter lights just for us that night!)

So the food. How was the food?

If you guys read my last post on dinner at il Lido, me and Cumi had not much time here as we were dashing off to another party. As such, we only tried the fish and a pasta. The fish was unfortunately rather “fishy” and the pasta was rather over-done. This time however, I had little complains because the dishes we sampled were exceptionally good.

My favourites for the night were  the Baked Eggplant & Mozzarella Cheese Cake with Tomato and Basil – light yet sinfully cheesy, the Porcini Mushroom Cream with Truffle-  musky and rich with that heady aroma of truffle that is unmistakably pungent and of course, the Rigatoni stuffed with pork and topped with a generous amount of truffle slices – another great dish if you are a truffle and pasta fan.

Later, I also thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend,  the Sardinian Roasted Suckling Pig with Plum Sauce for it’s crispy crackling skin done to perfection,  as well as the Tagliolini with Lobster and Spicy “Calabria” Salami whose spiciness lies in the ingredients in the salami itself. Finally the dish for me, that you must not miss, the Wagyu beef cheeks with Fava Beans. Talk about melting away all the tightness in my muscle, after a long day’s work – this melt in your mouth wagyu cheek did more than just fill my tummy. It melted all the tension in my limbs away too! Lovely.

If you are wondering why the pasta menu is so extensive at il Lido, that’s because those listed under ‘Gourmet’ are the ones recommended by the Chef, while the ‘Handmade Pastas’ are your regular favourites on the menu. Also, il Lido being a non-halal restaurant means you can eat all the authentic pork bits in your food as well – no substitution with beef bacon. I love the real McCoy, don’t you?

Finally, just as momma always says to end the night on a sweet note, they brought out the 1. Vanilla Pannacotta with Cinnamon Caramel and Fresh Berries, 2. Molten Lava Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice cream, 3. Traditional Tiramisu, 4. Creme Brule Symphony with Vanilla, Coffee, Pistachio and Strawberry! Ooo.. choices, choices.. spoilt for choice eh? If someone says, Ciki pick one and name your favourite, I would definitely yell Pannacotta! Thick, creamy and smooth, this was the ultimate dessert for me. Totally spot on in the density and smoothness department. If you like yours light, wobbly and more gelatinous,  this dense solid Pannacotta is not for you. Pass it over then, I’ll finish it;)

Il Lido

After dinner we were invited upstairs to see their Rooftop Lounge and this breeze pad has a bar, a DJ’s turntable/studio area plus a phenomenal view of the KL skyline.

il Lido restaurant is a great place to splurge on a loved one. And even if your pockets are not so deep and you’re holding out for pay-day that is just around the corner, there is always the option of the better value 6-course Classic, 7-course Degustation or a 4-course Lunch. One word of caution, stay away from the fishy dishes though. Stick to meats and pastas and you will do just fine! Thanks Lyla for hosting and Marian for the invite. A spectacular dinner.
