Whisk me away..

Empire Shopping Mall is spanking new. So new not many shops are open yet, even.

I’ve seen this place many times, driving past with Cumi.  Empire Subang is located opposite Wisma Consplant and near Subang’s KTM station.  If you drive along Federal Highway heading towards Klang, you will see Empire Subang, big and modern and looming on the edge of the highway.  The reason why there is yet another shopping mall in this already crowded ‘mall’ area is because the developers know that Subang’s population is fast increasing and becoming a commercial hub of its own.

Together with several well known colleges like Inti, Metropolitan and Taylor’s college, current residential projects with several mid to high end condos all set to explode around the same time, you know that one more shopping mall is really no big deal.

WHISK.

I liked it from the minute I set foot in the shop.

Azlan, one of the the owners of this family run business greeted us at the counter. This espresso bar and bake shop is jointly-owned by personalised stationary designer, Emma K, and her family. Azlan is her brother. This shop use to be in Bangsar Village II but has since relocated to what you now know as Whisk,  Empire Subang. All the cakes are baked by the women in the family.

Baby macaron. How I love macaron!

I went for a class once and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Baking macaron is definitely a high-precision skill that requires a lot of practice.. I was not really good at it, but that’s not to say I didn’t have fun eating the macaron we baked afterwards! Totally delicious.

What I like about the cakes at Whisk are that they are moist, bursting with ingredients and not too sweet. The price is just right too. Not too expensive that it will put a hole in your pocket.

We tried the Carrot Pecan Cake, the chocolate cupcake and some baby macaron.

Apart from the fact that it tastes delicious, there’s an air of ‘wholesomeness’ about any kind of carrot cake, don’t you think? A feeling that not only is it not bad for you but it’s actually doing you good😛

The carrot pecan cake was moist and heavily textured with carrots, pineapple and chopped pecan and generously flavoured with cinnamon and topped off with gorgeous icing. The chocolate cupcake was moist and had enough chocolate flavouring in it. I could get addicted to eating here only too easily.

Apart from the fact that it tastes delicious, there’s an air of ‘wholesomeness’ about any kind of carrot cake.

The baby macaron of Rose and Coffee were superb. I liked the fact that even though it was small, the outer crust had formed on the macaron – and this is essential in any good macaron.. I learnt this in class!

I love this place. Highly recommended that you pay it a visit if you are walking around Empire Subang, all shopped out and nursing a cake craving!

Ciki, you should be careful putting these fabulous pictures and descriptions online for all to see. Especially those of us in Europe, where it’s only early morning and now thanks to you I’m craving cake. AND my brother and his wife just returned from Paris and brought us some delicious looking macaroons, just like yours.
I’m off to eat now, and will know who to complain to when I get fat 😉 Great post.

Ciki ciki…why did you do this to me?? It’s almost midnight! I will blame you if my diet plan ruins. I’m going to Java holiday again this Thursday for 2 weeks – Bandung, Jakarta are my food paradise, that’s why I’m trying so hard not to get my sweet tooth spoiled in Bali..
Icing on cake definitely has to be avoided. Oh macaroon…
When you come to Bali, try : Gourmet Garage in Jimbaran or Gourmet Cafe by BCCO (Bali Catering Company) in Petitenget,Seminyak. They made a heavenly taste macaroon (french chef-Doudou)..X
Warning : Reading Ciki’s blog can ruin your diet :p

Hi, Is that you Aunty Nina? This is Tanty. I used to play with Emma way back when all of us were living in London. And you were close friends with my mother Maton. My friend came across your cake shop online and recommended that we go there this weekend for a intimate birthday tea celebration. I saw familiar faces in the photos… Hope to come by this sunday. I’ll try to persuade the other girls…. Would love to try the dessert. But apart frm dessert do you have anything hearty incase we decide to have a late lunch??

  • Omar says:

It is sucks man; the cakes there are totally not nice. The cake texture and taste are like normal fruit cakes, and moreover it is dry (not fresh), the interesting thing about the velvet cake is just its red colour. The carrot cake is not related to carrot cake except the name.

  • Varnisha says:

    Is the carrot cake nice?
And how much is the price for
    the whole cake?

  • ms. F says:

i somehow agree with omar. the cakes are kind of overpriced (by overpriced i mean super) and i have to say they’re much more better tasting & cheaper cakes u can find. and yeah, the red velvet is all color. its a very simple cake to do, the color is the thing that makes it look interesting. and for the price, i think the frosting is way too thin, sorry 🙁

  • miss M says:

Do you intend to expand this family business in other shopping mall?
