Chinese Medicinal Herbal Tea @ Jalan Pasar, KL

DSC01045
Whenever Cumi has a sore-throat or is feeling a little too much “heat” in his body, he drags me to visit the herbal medicinal tea man, on Jalan Pasar.
Jalan Pasar Medicine Herbal Tea
For me, coming from a scientific background, I honestly do not trust the brown stuff/powder that the old man mixes into the herbal tea. It tastes gross for starters, really bitter and also, if I cannot read the labeled ingredients, I do not trust the contents.

However, Cumi swears by it. Apparently, from the look of things, so do a lot of other people, including children. Cumi says that it actually relaxes his body and makes him feel sleepy.. and he’s right as rain the next day! Well, whatever works for you baby.

sometimes you have got to learn to trust Chinese medication 🙂 there are stuff that can't be explained by Science!
I vouch for the herbs that Cumi took… I had that too whenever I felt heaty or feverish! freaking bitter after adding the powder into the tea… but then it was ultra effective!

I am on your side of the fence! – that stuff tastes disgusting!! (Well, most of the time anyway,…. except when it's not really the medicinal sort served at coffeeshops…)

  • Selba says:

    Is it Lou Han Kuo?

It supposedly to be bitter and good for sore throat…

    Or liang tee?

  • Paranoid Android says:

Had a friend who was allergic to aspirin. He took some of this stuff in Klang and he swelled up 30 minutes after that. I wonder if they add anything else other than herbs inside?

    unka:
really? so the bitter taste does not put u off eh? good for you – GUTS of steel:P

    wilson:
have you never tried it before?

    Thule & PA:
yea, well.. i don't take it coz mainly i suffer from heartburn from time to time, and it is true what PA says, a lot of the time its crushed up aspirin they add to the tea, hence the feel good factor – where all your aches and pains and fever disappear (coz of the anti/inflammatory effect). However, it is not uncommon for little old ladies who swear by this having taken it for many years, to collapse from bleeding complications. It works for some – not all;)

doesn't the bitter taste put u off?!

that herbal drink is called Wong Lou Kat… and the super duper bitter powder has a cooling effect for heatiness 🙂 there's a cantonese saying "fu hao leong yeok"…
I don't agree with PA that it's crushed aspirin, as I have a friend who works in Chinese Medicine line. It's made from traditional herbs..
